Must read for all those that sought to provide the world with the scientific knowledge that could be used by people to stay safe and protect themselves from an evolving global pandemic.
And also those with an ongoing interest in fostering an understanding of the science of pathogen transmission and for those that want to understand the irrational and thinking that sought to spread disinformation and reinforce droplet dogma.
It is so important for future responses to infectious diseases to learn from and understand the mindset behind the scandalous WHO denial of AIRBORNE transmission at the beginning, to be able to learn more about the forces that came together to prevent any sort of rational and effective global science based response to transmission mitigation.
“WHO had a very good reason for being so cautious. “Airborne” means something very specific in terms of infection prevention and control practices in hospitals, and that something includes enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE), specialized facilities, and trained staff. If WHO says “airborne,” that has implications for health care around the globe. In 2020, the pandemic was putting a massive strain on health care systems and WHO was extremely conscientious of issuing guidelines that would overburden them further. Whether you think this should have been prioritized or not, that was the basis for proceeding slowly. WHO knows that their word choices can be extremely consequential.”

‘Nobody denied that you get respiratory viruses by breathing them. The problem was with the word “airborne.”
@angie_rasmussen
There was no issue with the use of the word AIRBORNE up until the dawning of the reality of so many having misunderstood the science of transmission and the faulty basis of droplet dogma.
ID/IPAC medicine and public health could not envisage the widespread nature of AIRBORNE transmission in so many pathogens once thought to be droplet and the implications that had.
As soon as Mike Ryan and Tedros backflipped on the warning about AIRBORNE transmission, they realised that the WHO had publicly committed to a lie and their disinformation scandal, and that they now had a problem with the word AIRBORNE.
They had to find a way out of the hole they had dug for themselves. Their ultimate solution was to blame the word and to try to erase it.

Decision already been made by Conly that the disinformation key messages from the “Conly” review will inform the “Conly”revised WHO guidance?
