Astonishing that Brexiteers who despise the political EU but don't mind keeping similar EEA access are now seen as "not eurosceptic"
By my count, EEA rules make up only ~20% of the total. EU is far more than trade, and the worst bits of the EU are nothing to do with trade
Furthermore, immediate post-referendum poll by Lord Ashcroft showed that *sovereignty*, not trade, was biggest driver of the Leave vote
Yet somehow we have allowed a narrative where only those who want immediate and uncontrolled severance from EU are seen as "true Brexiteers"
This is MORONIC. Trade and regulation are far more complicated than glib Brexiteers like Jacob Rees-Mogg make out. No deal is not an option.
I want the UK to be an independent country, but as @PeteNorth303 points out there are always some bits of sovereignty we will want to pool
That's why EFTA/EEA is the way to go for now. Continued participation in single market, no damaging NTBs *and* right of reservation
Right of reservation is key. At present, we have no opt-out from EEA rules and EU can use Britain's vote in global reg. bodies against us
EFTA/EEA would allow current preferential terms, but also give us right to avoid regulation if we felt was in our vital natl interest
Now THAT is intelligent use of sovereignty. It's also smart. Yet we who propose it are considered "traitors" to the Brexit cause
Meanwhile, those who know sod all about trade, don't care to learn & who advocate harsher severance are feted as keepers of One True Brexit
Sorry, but no. We voted to leave the political construct of the EU. That was what was on the ballot paper. Doing it smartly is not betrayal.
