one of the reasons it's so hard to break through to certain men about Weinstein is that he exemplifies the conversion of other capitals into sexual capital, which is the keystone that holds up the fragile promise made by every product and film aimed towards men their whole lives
a version of the american dream, reinforced by, idk, all of history & billions of $ of advertising—that Sexual Class Mobility is possible and infinitely scalable. You can be a carbuncled barky stump of a man & have sex with the most valued & fantasized about women on the planet
so where some men normally wouldn't identify with a man so monstrous, they NEED him to exist & succeed, because his failure and downfall represent a broken promise—all of the hours and years of sublimated sexual energy that's been harvested from them could have been for nothing
capitalism NEEDS men to believe that eventually all of the capital they accrue can be exchanged, at whatever rate, for sex/sexual power.
when men watch this fantasy fall apart, the fury that should be directed towards the casino that is patriarchal capitalism is directed instead at the women who "aren't holding up their end of the bargain" aka don't actually work at the casino & aren't obligated to cash the chips
I was raised by poor conservatives. I know what it looks like when people support a system that's sucking them dry because they identify as future rich people who are temporarily not rich.
The mere existence of Hugh Hefner sold more watches and cars than you could ever fathom.
Look, so much of what makes everything move is displaced libidinal energy. It never won't be and that's fine.
My main point is that this is why so many men react poorly to the effigial burning of HW.
They would, they're sure, never rule like THAT
but they need the throne to exist

PS: There's a taxonomic distinction to be made. The LESS sociopathic Weinstein apologists need to believe that women wanted to be with him, so defend this position, so find themselves cornered into believing & asserting that these women are greedy liars. —>
The worst ones, the ones that are Weinsteins, don't care if the women wanted him. They just don't like that his power wasn't enough to make it happen every time and to keep it silent forever.
Weinstein didn't want to be the most appealing choice, he wanted there to be no choice.
