1. You know, for me, the veiling/niqab issue begins and ends with what one young Muslim girl once asked me during an interview:
2. She said: I used to be able to just wake up and go to school. Brush my teeth, open my closet, get dressed, go to school. No big deal.
3. She continues: then, at some point, the opening of my closet because political. My choice of clothing became a political choice.
4. She goes on: People looked at me like my choice of clothing was somehow spitting in their face. It was a challenge to THEIR way of life.
5. Cont: I'm not sure when this happened. I never agreed to it. I never signed up to be part of some movement. I was just going to school.
6. Cont: All of a sudden, what I chose to wear every morning was being talked about by the Prime Minister. Like, what the hell?
7. Cont: The PM cares what I wear? He has nothing else going on? He made me into a political object. I didn't choose to be seen that way.
8. Cont: it wasn't an identity I chose. Now sitting in class, I was making a political statement. Or, I was seen to be making one.
9.She asks me: have you ever felt this way? Do you think about this stuff when you put your clothes on in the morning?

No, I say. Not once.
10/10. Exactly, she says. All of a sudden, just LIVING has become exhausting. I don't even like politics, she says laughing. #Bill62
