In real terms America has been declining as a hegemon for some time. Trump, and his cadre, don't seem to appreciate that in a multipolar world the USA has lost its ability to force its will on others.…
Yes America still has power, but that has been decreasing since the end of the cold war and Trump's accession to President has only exacerbated the speed at which it become a relative international irrelevance.....
The facts that the US Ambassador to the UN, on orders from the President, is acting like a U boat Captain from Dad's army just highlights how little the US has to offer anymore in the grand scale of things......
Yes Trump supporters buy into his line of #maga, and he plays well with disaffected voters but out on the global stage he is out of his depth and that is seen by other countries, who will be more than willing to take advantage of his weakness....
By promoting protectionist trade policies he has removed the most important tool he had to get other countries to tow the line. Add in the lack of trust anyone has in him and things don't look good for the US in the long term, long after he has gone from power......
It would have been unthinkable for the USA to be, basically dismissed, by so many nations as it has been since Trump came to power. The UN vote is just another to add to list of times, due to Trump's decisions, USA has been shown to be an irrelevance in international community...
Trump isn't just an issue for the US though. By exacerbating multi-polarity in the world he risks fundamentally destablising the international order, and the serious repercussions which that entails.
Since the end of World War 2, arguably, we've had hegemons acting as a balance to promote a general level of security in the international community. A multi-polar order, whereby states via to maximise their self interest, without a check, creates potential for increased conflict
In time it could create a stabilising effect, as more states find that it is in their interests to form alliances, particularly in trade for example, but there will always be those who seek to take more power than is actually in their benefit to hold...
By seeing the USA no longer as the global power it once was, and instead as a effectively a petulant bully. It increases the potential for other states to try and emulate it's past power, when they don't have the means to do so effectively....
So to sum up, basically, the posturing of @nikkihaley and @realDonaldTrump in their deluded ambition to #MAGA actually reduces America's influence further and creates a potential global issue which risks genuine instability in international relations.
