Dems have really put themselves in a tough spot with this shutdown. The overwhelming majority in the country do not want to see a government shutdown for resolving DACA....
... but the Dem base has been so radicalized that inevitable Dem backtracking will result in tantrums among the base, which is pretty weak in terms of anything binding it together beyond "resist".....
... if the roles were magically switched and I were an immoral Dem I would love to see the "opposition" squirm with a shutdown that went on for a week or two, but that would be if it were purely about politics, and not other things, incl. military....
... I see some articles talking about this Dem or that Dem 'cracking' when it comes to building the wall for any DACA deal - I think we can trust Sen. Tom Cotton, Mark Meadows, and a few others to handle negotiations and only approve a good deal....
... but it is important not to get too carried away with a Dem saying they are willing to 'give' regarding the wall - it depends on what funding they are agreeing to and if they are setting constraints on the wall. Also with DACA it is important to halt any new applications...
... and not go beyond 800,000, and then there is chain migration and the visa lottery.

The good thing with Dems on the defense is there possibly is an opportunity to be bolder regarding details - i.e. revise the 10 year 'installment' thing and get more upfront funding. ----

This is why we cannot emerge from non-stop continuing resolutions, a comfortable 'new normal' that set in over the last 9 years. The swamp has no desire to go back to long-term budgets.

#SchumerShutdown
... an interesting feature with this "shutdown" has been the lib media blaming the shutdown on Dems for once, and even before that the WashPost was saying libs should compromise on the border wall...
#SchumerShutdown
... so the lib media, lib establishment overall is about the "DACA deal", and one note of caution would be the potential trap again of falling for the trick in the past....
#SchumerShutdown
... i.e. there is no real deal for a wall unless there is a push to secure much more funding upfront, as opposed to a small amount, with conditions, as the Dems (and Flake/Graham) have been trying. ----
#SchumerShutdown | "#DACAdeal"

Conservatives have done well over the last week or so pointing to how radical immigration policy Dems and special interests want hurts blue collar, including urban minorities, i.e. traditional Dem constituencies, and this has Dems on the defense
#SchumerShutdown | "#DACAdeal"
... this is something that will have to driven in as a narrative day in and day out, to continue exposing Dems, particularly the Dem base, as radical, because in any negotiations it has to be made clear there is a good possibility of no deal....
#SchumerShutdown | "#DACAdeal"
.... and the White House does appear to have started that over the weekend and into today (Monday).

Trumpocrats have parallels with blue collar Dems who crossed over as part of the "Reagan coalition".....
#SchumerShutdown | "#DACAdeal"
... with the Trump policy package as a whole, it would also be nice to see if some organized labor leaders can be put under pressure again as to whether they are serving their members well remaining aligned with Dems....
#SchumerShutdown | "#DACAdeal"
... this applies for immigration policy, i.e. merit based (Trump) vs. flooding in cheap labor. There was focus with labor unions early on in the Trump admin. last year but some focus was lost on that for various reasons....
#SchumerShutdown | "#DACAdeal"
... there are chunks of the Dem base that can be attracted away from a Dem party which clearly no longer serves their interests. Just a few % here and there crossing over from Dems makes a huge difference. --
