Hey @nikkihaley - since you seem to be ignorant to how inextricably connected music and politics are, here’s a thread for you 👇

See, art has always been a reflection of humanity, and politics directly influence humanity’s very existence.

So music and politics? Familiar bedfellows.
Shall we start with Beethoven, who originally dedicated The Symphony No. 3 in E♭ major, Op. 55 to Napoleon Bonaparte, as a tribute to his democratic and anti-monarchical beliefs?
Or we could discuss the creation and manipulation of music during the rise of the Soviet Union. Think of the music of Prokofiev, Miaskovsky, Shostakovich, or Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus.
The use of music in Nazi Germany - both as a form of resistance and by the Nazi forces themselves (think Carl Orff's cantata Carmina Burana) - is worthy of its own thread at the very least.
Fast forward a bit and we have the American folk revival. The Almanac Singers, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Simon & Garfunkel and countless more.

And what about the use of music in the Civil Rights Movement? Apparently, Ms. Haley has forgotten about such famous songs as "This Little Light of Mine”, "We Shall Overcome”, and what is arguably one of the most incredible moments in musical history 👇

I mean, do I even need the mention the 1960s and 70s? Was it possible to find apolitical music then?

The entire punk movement. All of it.

Most American country music also promotes political ideology. Songs that present one specific type of American nationalism are inherently political by nature.
At risk of repeating myself, the entire hip hop/rap genre. All of it.

So, when Nikki Haley says she prefers music without the politics thrown in, I don’t know what the fuck she’s talking about.

Taylor Swift?

And one more for the night.
