Welcome to my Ask Me Anything thread. The folks running @Team_Renato have been compiling questions all day and I’m going to answer as many as possible tonight.

This is the first of many ways I’ll be increasing my interaction with you in the weeks ahead!
From @DavidHowardOjai
Q: Why has Mueller not made more arrests yet? Assuming he has probable cause, what's the delay? Is there a risk that Mueller gets shut down without new indictments? Wouldn't indicting now decrease the risk?
A: Federal prosecutors don’t indict until they’re confident they have sufficient evidence to prove the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. It’s unclear whether indicting earlier would change the risk that Mueller is fired, and firing him wouldn’t end the investigations.

Q: What can we Democracy loving Americans do?
A: Get off our butts, organize, and vote! Until election time, volunteer for campaigns you believe in and contribute if you can. The best way to stop Trump is to change the people in power. (That’s a big reason why I decided to run for Attorney General!)
From @Clara_Resists
Q: If elected, what is the first thing you would do as Attorney General to resist Trump and his administration?
A: Sadly it’s hard to predict what Trump will do between now and November. If he starts reporting Dreamers, as I suspect, I’ll bring a suit on behalf of Illinois Dreamers making the due process argument I set forth in this article I wrote months ago. thehill.com/blogs/pundits-…
From @StollmeyerEU
Q: Once you are Illinois AG, will Bear get his own desk ? 😉
A: I might have to bring Bear’s doggy bed to the office!
From @kennedy072357
Q: I'm feeling confused bc i believed Trump & others would be brought down by Mueller. But now over the last week it seems he will once again get away w serious crimes...can u help Americans feel more positive that Trump will b held accountable for something?
A: Back in September, I wrote this thread about the limits of the criminal justice system. The bottom line is that we should not sit back and wait for Mueller to save America. We need to get off our butts and save it outselves.
From @persist2018
Q: What do you feel sets you apart from the other candidates?
A: Unlike my opponents, I’m not a politician or an insider. I’m a prosecutor who is part of the #Resistance running a grassroots campaign to change my state and my party from the bottom up. I don’t take special interest money—our average contribution size is well under $100.
From @GeeJustG
Q: We're in such a dark time right now. So just to lighten things up and provide an escape: What are your top 3 binge-worthy TV shows of all time?
A: The Wire, Game of Thrones, and Breaking Bad. But I’ve binge watched everything from The League to Star Trek: The Next Generation.
From @jechester431
Q: If Nunes' "memo" is as bogus as some reports suggest, is he potentially opening himself up to obstruction of justice charges? Especially if there was, in fact, a coordinated effort between him & the WH in regards to drafting/disseminating this memo?
A: The memo is a dangerous stunt that is harmful to our democracy and undermines the independence of federal law enforcement. Could you make an argument that it’s part of an effort to obstruct justice? Sure. Any real chance you could charge and convict him? No—too hard to prove.
From @NatCookResists
I’ll give you a fun one. I know Chicago isn’t going to the Super Bowl, but...who do you think will win? Pats or Eagles 🤔

Also, Sox or Cubs fan?? 🤔
A: It’s hard to bet against Brady, so I’ll pick the Pats. I’m a lifelong Sox fan because my family’s from the south side!
From @lrozen
that is what i am wondering.does mueller call Nunes? he has been part of 2 episodes of attempted WH obstruction
A: It’s tricky. Nunes will argue he is investigating unrelated wrongdoing, and Mueller will not want to wade into politicized territory. I suspect he’ll avoid Nunes unless he is a witness that can add something valuable against Trump on obstruction that he can’t get elsewhere.
From @wizengamot8
What happens if Mueller gets fired? Will the investigation continue?
A: Yes. As I explained in this op-ed I wrote in the @washingtonpost, the investigations would not end. There is a formal procedure for closing investigations. That’s one reason why firing Mueller might actually backfire for Trump. washingtonpost.com/news/postevery…
From @HopeEstaAqui
What do you think the relationship is between Mueller's current investigation into obstruction of justice, and the wider possible conspiracy with Russia issue?
A: None, other than that they’re being investigated by the same Special Counsel and could involve some of the same people.
From @Max_Sarvello
Advice for an aspiring Lawyer/Someone who wants to run for office someday?
A: For being an attorney, sharpen your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional command of the English language is a must.

Only pursue either endeavor if you’re passionate about it and want to make a difference. That’s what makes all the hard work worthwhile.
From @L_M_Kpor
What's the status on the #5KinaDay fundraising campaign? Have you met today's goal yet?
A: Still $435 away! I wish we didn’t need to ask, but it’s the end of the month, and we need to be on television to compete. Every little bit counts in a grassroots campaign. renatomariotti.com/5kinaDay

How is Bear tonight?
Great! Soon we’re going to unveil a new video featuring me and Bear!
This has been a lot of fun. There are dozens of other questions that I wish I could answer! Fortunately I’m going to do this again soon, and I’m also going to do a telephonic town hall! So more to come.

I’ll write a thread on the new @nytimes story before bed. /end
