Thread about the indictments so far. The Special Counsel has indicted four Americans so far; Gen. Flynn, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort and Rick Gates. Two of the indictments relate directly to the Trump campaign; Flynn and Papadopoulos, and the other two do not.
The Papadopoulos and Flynn indictments are for lying to the feds. As you should know, Flynn’s plea is likely to be overturned due to corrupt activity by the FBI and DoJ. Papadopoulos’ plea seems likely to stand.
The other two indictments, Manafort and Gates, have nothing whatsoever to do with the Trump campaign. Those indictments are for not registering as agents of a foreign government and for fraudulent financial activity related to their work representing the Ukraine.
You can read the indictments here: lawfareblog.com/document-super…
Furthermore, although Manafort was the campaign manager, he was fired in August. The infamous Trump Tower meeting with the Russian lawyer took place in September, so Manafort wasn’t involved and has no knowledge of that.
Gates served as campaign operations manager during the Convention and had a role in the Inauguration Committee. theatlantic.com/magazine/archi… So neither man had or has any knowledge of Trump campaign contacts with Russians and both men represented Ukraine, which is at odds with Russia
So, neither Gates nor Manafort would have been any help hooking up with Russians, since all their contacts were Ukranian. How does either man, or their indictments, tie Trump to any Russian collusion at all.
Papadopoulos’ plea agreement states that he lied about WHEN he met with a Russian professor with “substantial ties” to Russian government officials. justice.gov/file/1007346/d… The professor offered him “dirt” on Hillary Clinton, in the form of emails.
The second instance was when he lied about when he talked to a Russian woman whose government connections he sought to use to arrange a meeting between the Russians and Trump campaign officials. He has NOT been charged with any other crimes.
Papadopoulos’ attempts to increase his influence in the Trump campaign never succeeded. No meeting between the Russians and the campaign was ever arranged as a result of his efforts. So, it’s hard to see how he ties in any claim of collusion to Trump or the campaign.
The only other indictments are for the Russians involved in the social media campaign to influence the election. thehill.com/policy/nationa… There has been no connection adduced between the Trump campaign and this fully Russian influence operation.
So, what’s going on? It’s hard to see how the current indictments lead to Trump or his campaign in any way. A logical person would ask, where is Mueller headed with this? Flynn leads nowhere. Papadopoulos is a dead end. The Russians are unrelated.
That only leaves Manafort and Gates. And all their connections are to Ukraine, not Russia. Where could Mueller possibly be headed, if his goal is to determine if there was any Russian collusion? These indictments don’t help do that at all.
There’s all sorts of speculation on the left that all four are related to the Trump campaign, therefore this leads directly to Trump. But how does it lead to collusion with Russia? The answer is, it doesn’t. So, again, where is Mueller heading with this thing?
This is pure speculation, because we have no evidence at this point to back it up, but there’s a US person with substantial ties to the Ukraine - Hillary Clinton.
thehill.com/blogs/pundits-… Could Mueller be heading there? If he is, guess who else has strong ties to the Ukraine?
Tony Podesta. washingtonexaminer.com/podesta-group-… And guess who the Podestas are closely tied to? The Clintons. So, rather than complain about how Mueller’s investigation has been going on too long and screaming that there was no collusion, so shut it down, maybe, just maybe
We should be cheering Mueller on as he gets to the bottom of what went on in the 2016 campaign. Because his investigation seems to have veered away from Russian and planted a bullseye on Ukraine.
Right where the Podestas and the Clintons where trying to influence the 2016 campaign in a different direction. Perhaps, rather than Russian collusion, what we have is Ukranian collusion, and rather than Trump in the crosshairs, we have Hillary in the crosshairs.
How will we know for sure? When you see an indictment announced for Tony Podesta. THAT is when you will know that the SC investigation has taken a massive left turn and is headed straight for Ukraine - and straight for Hillary’s indictments.
Soon we will be getting the OIG report on the DoJ/FBI investigation. That will blow the lid off Washington. But that could be a sideshow compared to what comes next from Mueller. If Mueller indicts Podesta, the rumor mill will explode.
And Hillary and Bill will be using Google to locate countries without extradition treaties.
corrected my statement that the Trump Tower meeting with the Russian lawyer took place in September 2016. It was actually June 9th. But there is no evidence that Manafort attended that meeting.
Well, now I have to correct that. Manafort WAS at the June 9th meeting. cnn.com/2017/07/14/pol…
Because God knows, the NRA is all about bombs. Where do we find such idiots?
