1. Twitter plans to measure it's own "Health" by measuring shared attention, shared reality, variety of opinion, and receptivity.
On the face of it it seems just like another pointless corporate exercise designed to massage already inflated egos, and reassure investors.
2. However look closely at the four chosen indicators.
Shared attention: I don't need to Focus my attention on something that someone else is already focused on, unless I choose to do so. If I'm made to do so, that is a deliberate attempt at enforcing conformity
3. Shared reality: most human beings do not share the same reality. In fact we live in our own interpretation of what is real. It confers an evolutionary advantage by preventing persistent cognitive dissonance. @ScottAdamsSays propounded the "watching your own movie" concept
4. Therefore measuring shared reality is simply a tool to measure which side of the discussion has more gravitas and is nothing more than a glorified way of talking about the weight of public opinion.
The data will be fed back into shared attention to enforce conformity
5. Variety of opinion: this appears to be in stark contradistinction to the first two indicators. The more variety, less is the shared attention and less is the shared reality.
However I believe it will be another way for them to inject "varieties" of narratives.
6. In fact it aligns well with imposing conformity. If they don't like the shared attention a topic is getting, they ensure that there is variety of opinion to decrease shared reality and shared attention. Essentially confound the masses by injecting other opinion
7. Receptivity: how well something is received is dependent upon the message, how much attention it gets and how it resonates. How well something is received has nothing to do with the veracity of the information contained. It has to do with how well it resonates emotionally
8. When something is extremely well received by one group of people, there's an entirely other group of people that receive it exquisitely poorly because it is a polarizing opinion. It's all relative. But it also allows people to talk about how poorly something was received
9. That is the very basis of the 24-hour news cycle, the "if it bleeds it reads" dictum.
Presumably receptivity can be used as a double edged weapon specifically when talking about topics that seem overly defensive to a specific group of people.
10. See when you see corporations bring up verbiage that makes absolutely no actual sense but it's considered actionable by a group of corporate douches, it does not end well for the common person.
For example what the hell is conversational health?
11. To someone as poorly educated as me, conversational health is when an irritating person stops conversing and it improves the overall quality of my health. I doubt that is what Twitter is talking about
12. What I do think Twitter is talking about is to formalize a set of guidelines and principles that can be Loosely interpreted based upon The Observers vantage point. Make it subjectively objective and then make sure the person viewing it has your sense of subjectivity
13. Measuring reality is an exercise in futility, stupidity and corporate cluelessness. However, make no mistake the data will be collected and fed into sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms.
14. I think Twitter knows the futility of measuring reality. However the true genius of this entire depraved scheme is the ability to change the perception of reality.
15. Also known as censorship by lesser Mortals such as myself.
Is censorship By Any Other Name still censorship?
Or is the term a "better shared reality" more acceptable to you.
16. le mot malice peut être utilisé de façon interchangeable avec Twitter
