The Lessons of Making $$ from Writing

1. Writing is a SKILL, as well as an art, and skills can be leveraged-You must think of yourself as a business/businessperson

If you want to do this and be paid for it stop thinking of yourself as an ‘artist’ only.
2. Believe in what you write- If you don’t have full faith that your words have value, you won't last.

3. Writing is COMMUNICATION- ANYONE can write. Your ability to express yourself with the written word is directly reflective of clarity of thinking
4. Here are ways you can make $$ writing
-articles
-blogs
-trade journals
-ghost writing
-copywriting (this can earn big money)
-books and E-books
-infotainment products
-technical writing
-patrons

Anywhere in the world you see writing, someone had to do it
5. If you want to pay yourself as a writer, get your own audience-

That is my model. I started an email list, I have subscribers, my subscribers are my fans and "true fans", and they buy directly from ME
6. How do you get an audience- Put yourself out there

This is the grind work that no one wants to do. You must define yourself, and start producing content of SOME kind within your personality and within a medium
7. Pick a Medium
There is a massive number of social media channels to connect with other human beings. Pick two and BLAST THEM with content

I've written emails every day for 20 months now. I've tweeted 100 times a day for 2 years

=I have a following
8. Be Self made and Self paid
Do that for 5 years straight, and set up a model of some kind where people can buy from you, donate to you, pay you, something in which they are patrons to work

At the end of 5 years, if you offer value, you'll have a business
9. The best writing comes from people who are CHARACTERS

There is a reason great writers have a reputation for being eccentric, insane and weird as hell; the more defined your personality, the better you write. Your personality is your filter for the world
10. Stop thinking your writing is no "good"- Fuck your insecurities. You expect to write well when you barely write? Publish something every day, week, month somewhere that people will read it

Write or don't bother
11. To write well, be well read-This is an easy one. Reading teaches you a vocabulary, thinking, and richness of expression

The best writers are always the most well-read writers. I've never met a writer that does not read
12. Become an apprentice of the game-There are many courses and resources that can teach you copywriting and online business, and there are ALWAYS job opportunities

I read @BenSettle newsletter

I did @thecadclub Online Business Course

I executed.
13. This is a LONG game-If you are going to write, do so obsessively. I believe that in 2-3 years anyone could support themselves writing, and in 5-10 you could become quite wealthy, provided you are smart about it and follow the suggestions laid out.
14. Think BIG- What you write can last forever

A book can be published forever
An article can make you $$ forever
A post can change people's lives forever

I don’t use the term lightly. This may be the digital age but everything lasts
15.Don't Give Up-Submit articles everywhere that you can

Guest post everywhere you can. Be present and make an effort over and over and over again. This takes discipline and no one is going to buy your book or product or read your work on Day 1

Long Game
16. Be able to tell a story-If you cannot tell stories, you've no future in making it as a writer, not unless you are writing instructional manuals for cabinets.

Writers are storytellers
16. Give Yourself Away (Always be promoting)

These tweets are promotion, me going psycho is promotion
The periscopes in my car are promotion. The 20 free programs I think I've sent out are promotion.

PROMOTION IS MOMENTUM.
18. You Must stand Out- If you want success in the modern age in which 100,000 data points compete for someone's attention, you better STAND OUT and unabashedly so.

We live in the Attention Economy-So what makes you worth paying attention to?
19. Once you make your first $1, everything seems possible-As soon as you are paid to write, it all gets easier, as you'll realize the possibilities do exist that this can be…something
20. Give People what they want by doing what you want-This requires passion. You cant hate to write & be successful at writing

You need to take enjoyment in the process, and that is where the art comes in. If writing is arduous, youve no future at this
21. If No One WANTS to Read What You Write, You Suck

If people are not responding to your words, your writing isnt compelling. Its paradoxical, as most are TERRIBLE when they first start writing, but you need to keep going, even when no one is reading you
22. Get the most wildly passionate email list of all time MINE, where I manage to talk health, mentality, ballet, fitness, art, death, life, and making $$

ALL AT THE SAME TIME
