I was also raised in a racist home. Where the head of the household used slang words and bigoted remarks on a daily basis.
Words like Jew. Spic. Nigger. Pollock. Wetback. Wopp. Etc etc...
I became my own man. Easing my own family. Being the opposite of what I was raised into and grew away from.
Just as before, so many times.
We tend to forget race and color, when America is wounded. We tend to dismiss religion and beliefs, and stand shoulder to shoulder.
We tend to be exactly what our forefathers wished for America to be, when we are at our worst moments in history. This is when we shine through and when we unite.
I fear we are incapable in uniting as one, right now, even when we are hurting the most.
God Bless America.
