I was raised to believe in my country. To believe in its people and the government's obligations to serve its people. I was brought up and taught to cherish and reapect our military. I was raised to respect the rule of law and to know the difference between right and wrong.
I was raised and taught to respect my country and the people of this country. Period.

I was also raised in a racist home. Where the head of the household used slang words and bigoted remarks on a daily basis.

Words like Jew. Spic. Nigger. Pollock. Wetback. Wopp. Etc etc...
I grew to rebel against it and the hate that came from it. In the end I disowned the part of my family that fed the most vile anger and fear into the family I loved.

I became my own man. Easing my own family. Being the opposite of what I was raised into and grew away from.
Today, as an American, I am appalled to see so many of my fellow Americans turning away from the country they love to uphold and support the very things I rebeled against and that our country fought against from the beginning. Division. Hate. Anger... The poison of Democracy.
I believe in my country still, ever after all this drama and hysteria. I know deep in the heart of what is American, lives the American spirit. That never ending strength that comes from such diversity being united together for a just cause.
Just as before, so many times.
Our country overcomes its greatest obstacles, one way or another, shouldered upon the strength of what being American is really all about.

Unity.

We tend to forget race and color, when America is wounded. We tend to dismiss religion and beliefs, and stand shoulder to shoulder.
When our country hurts.

We tend to be exactly what our forefathers wished for America to be, when we are at our worst moments in history. This is when we shine through and when we unite.

I fear we are incapable in uniting as one, right now, even when we are hurting the most.
I stand firmly in the belief that we can get past this point in history, if those with the ironclad proven indisputable evidence of Trump's criminality would just come forward and end this ridiculous poignant time in America, with the last straw that breaks the camels back.
There's to hope.

God Bless America.
