Okay alright I’m gonna do this thing and probably miss days and I’m starting late fuck it.
1. I’m the co-designer (with the very talented @olde_fortran) of Dungeon World. I’m a queer person and full time twitch broadcaster who doesn’t have as much time for design as he would like but for whom tabletop RPGs and game design are omnipresent in almost everything.
2. I live in Vancouver, BC but I might as well live on the internet for all my physical location matters.
3. I’ve been creating RPG content as long as I’ve been playing. So, 25 years. My more official “career” in game design started at GoPlay Northwest in I wanna say 2010 when @tonydowler gave me a copy of his AD&D/AW hack to mess with.
4. My work mainly consists of Dungeon World, if we are looking at finished, published stuff. It’s a game built to orient play towards dungeons and dragons style narratives while focusing on the fiction primarily. It’s also there to trick people into becoming designers themselves.
5. My favourite game I’ve worked on is probably whatever I’m designing or hacking together at any moment. Play and design go hand in hand for me, so whatever I’m immersed in is what I care most about.
6. My favourite game mechanism is probably Intent & Task (for clearing up precisely what’s actually going on, fictionally, and pairing it with mechanical operation) or all the agenda, principles and moves from AW (codifying the GMs role clearly and usefully).
7. My workspace is my streaming office and I’m on the road, so I’m skipping this one until I can get home and take a photo!
8. My routine revolves around the four shows I GM every week - Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of every week I’m playing games with a new show coming up. I have a streaming schedule I try and stick to. The grind is real. I work 50+ hours every week, just on broadcasting.
9. My process is highly collaborative. I can’t work alone, and I always have someone (a co-designer, players, a friend, my chat) to bounce ideas off of. Game design, for me, is a team effort. It’s also messy and iterative. Even definite “yes” ideas can end up changed or trashed.
10. I don’t play games to relax. I play games to turn on - to ignite my brain to analysis and examination! Though, repetitive puzzle type games can simulate a sort of focus that feels really good.
(To relax I read, listen to music, monotask as much as I can - spend time alone, go to the movies, take baths, go on long walks and take photos)
11. This is gonna be a fun one. My design “brand” is focused on the right rules for the right narrative. I demand the rules of the game carry their weight for generating the narrative. I want people to learn and understand why the rules do what they do.
11a. My brand, stylistically, is adding or highlighting diverse characterization as a means to express the myriad nuances of the settings within the games I play. NPCs are my ultimate true favourite shit in games, and I want them all to be unique and “human”.
11b. I’m also perceived as both having a deep understanding of D&D but somehow also hating it and being it’s worst enemy by some folks. Dungeon World is a love letter some people read as a death threat. It is confounding.
11c. Finally, if you wanted to discuss my aesthetic brand in games, I’m drawn to grim thematic explorations of power (especially religious) and relationships of control. I tend to prefer games where things gets worse, not better.

Also gay cyberpunk shit.
12. My main jam is broadcasting and content creation, which means being out there is 100% of what I do. Dungeon World and other design stuff gets to come along for the ride.
