Iowa & South Carolina voters! If u care about public education, u must call ur state legislators NOW to oppose pending legislation to join the so-called "Convention of States" to amend the U.S. Constitution! This effort is backed by the #Kochs & #ALEC! Sourced info. below. 1/
2/ The #Kochs--who support and fund the pending legislation in states like Iowa and SC to call a Convention of States to amend the U.S. Constitution (see posts below)--are determined to undermine public education. commondreams.org/views/2018/02/…
3/ Here is a handout w/ links to model legislation from #ALEC--a #Koch funded organization --that would undermine public education. #ALEC is also pushing for a Convention of States to amend the US Constitution via pending bills in states like IA and SC!

4/ Here’s an article re: the disturbing financial and ideological connection between the #Kochs and #ALEC, including their determination to decimate public education. thenation.com/article/alec-e…
5/ Here is a link to ALEC’s own website where it promotes an Article V Convention of States to amend the US Constitution. alec.org/model-policy/a…
6/ Here’s a link to an article explaining that #ALEC supports two different but similarly dangerous Article V projects: (1) the Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force; & (2) the even more radical & broadly worded Convention of States Project. exposedbycmd.org/2017/03/23/koc…
7/ The two #ALEC & #Koch supported Article V measures need 34 states to call a Convention and 38 to ratify amendments. google.com.mx/amp/s/amp.cnn.…
8/ The Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force has pushed for an Article V Convention of States to amend the US Constitution for many years. Wisconsin recently became the 28th state to join that effort. #NoConCon jsonline.com/story/news/pol…
9/ The Convention of States Project was launched by a group called Citizens for Self-Governance in 2015. Twelve states have already signed on. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conventio… … …
10/ In June 2017, former South Carolina senator Jim DeMint (recently ousted from the Heritage Foundation) became a senior advisor to the Convention of States project seeking to amend the US Constitution. conservativereview.com/articles/jim-d…
11/ Jim DeMint is a member of the ultra right wing Council for National Policy. splcenter.org/sites/default/…
12/ The Council for National Policy's 2014 directory linked above shows that KA, Bannon, DeVos's father in law, the Mercers, & Pence are also members. It also shows that the CNP has set 2020 as its deadline for restoring "religion & economic freedom ... under the Constitution"!
13/ The Council for National Policy was co-founded by Paul Weyrich, who also founded ALEC and the Heritage Foundation.

Weyrich infamously admitted that he didn't want everyone to vote.
14/ Here's my sourced Thread on the educational goals of the Council for National Policy to which Jim DeMint (senior advisor to the Article V Convention of States Project) belongs. As shown, they include eliminating the DOE & federal education funding.
15/ Per the Economist, both BBATF and the much more recent (but better funded and even more radical) #COSProject expect to have the necessary 34 states to call a Convention of States aka Constitutional Convention by the end of 2019! #NoConCon economist.com/news/briefing/…
16/ The Iowa House already PASSED Joint Resolution 8, the #COSProject resolution for an Article V Convention of States. As of 4/23/18, the IA legislature remains in session, and @IowaDemocrats expects the state senate to vote on JR8 this week! Link to JR8: legis.iowa.gov/legislation/Bi…
17/ Here is a link to the Iowa senate leadership, including links to their emails and phone numbers. Pls contact them NOW and tell them to oppose JR8, the resolution calling for an Article V Convention of States to amend the US Constitution! legis.iowa.gov/legislators/le…
18/ South Carolina voters must call or email members of the SC House Judiciary Committee & tell them to oppose H3233 (#COSProject resolution for an Article V Convention of States) & H3473 (Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force resolution for an Article V Convention of States).
19/ SC voters can link to contact info for members of the SC House Judiciary Committee here. scstatehouse.gov/CommitteeInfo/…
20. SC voters must also contact members of the SC SENATE Judiciary Committee & tell them to oppose S86 (#COSProject resolution for an Article V Convention of States) and S547 (Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force resolution for an Article V Convention of States)!
21. Here is a link to members of the South Carolina SENATE Judiciary Commitee, including links to their contact info. scstatehouse.gov/CommitteeInfo/…
22. Finally, here is a link for South Carolina voters to review the status of the Article V bills discussed in this Thread: H3233, H3473, S86, and S547. scstatehouse.gov/billsearch.php
23. Here is another article re: you may find informative on the #Koch funded effort to call an Article V Convention of States aka Constitutional Convention to amend the US Constitution. prwatch.org/news/2017/03/1…
24. BTW, the two #ALEC sponsored Article V projects—Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force & #COSProject—do not expressly refer to public education or the DOE. But they cld & almost certainly wld seek to slash them under the guise of “balancing the budget.”
25. A “Balanced Budget” is a goal not only of the Article V Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force, But also of the broader & even more radical Article V Convention of States Project (#COSProject). conventionofstates.nationbuilder.com/ok_cos
26. Here’s an article explaining the difficulty states would have if federal funding of education were slashed. americanprogress.org/issues/educati…
27. I do not mean to suggest that “only” education spending would be slashed. Social security, Medicare, Medicaid, & the EPA would also be gutted under the proposed Balanced Budget Amendment to the US Constitution!
28. I focused on education in this Thread because it occurs to me that local educators might have a strong interest in this specific aspect, & I’m not getting the type of local response I’d like with broader messaging.
