Kate Hoey, Brexit and why it still matters in the #LocalElection2018 - a thread.

This time last year, the local Labour Party (including many council candidates) were busy campaigning to get Hoey back into parliament. She’s been the Vauxhall Labour Party MP since the late 1980s.
The same cohort of campaigners are now distributing literature, tweets etc emphasising their “pro EU” stance and their support for the many thousands of EU residents living and working in Lambeth.

Today Hoey again spoke in Parliament - in favour of the hardest Brexit possible.
You cannot have both. It is *not possible* to both campaign and fund and support Kate Hoey MP while also campaigning on a Pro-EU platform. It does not square. At best it is a confused position, indicative of a local party at war, but at worst it is misleading and unfair.
Many people vote Labour without realising what their local Labour MP is arguing for on their behalf. Today Hoey argued against staying in the Customs Union - demanding we “take back control”, suggesting those arguing otherwise were potential traitors to “the will of the people”.
Let’s not even get started on her position on the Irish border question and her support for the DUP.
The Lib Dems tried incredibly hard to unseat Hoey last year. We gained a lot of support. And yet the Labour vote carried her through. The #LocalElections2018 is our final chance to send the strongest message possible that the people of Lambeth do NOT agree with her.
We recognise that #LocalElections2018 don’t directly affect Westminster or Brexit. However.
Labour's national leadership will take any council wins as an endorsement of their muddled Brexit position, as Hoey did when she was re-elected.
As we have seen with the Windrush Scandal, central government does not seem to care about our vulnerable minorities, our communities. It does not care about their right to citizenship, their right to vote, or their right not to worry daily about their future.
We have to send a message.

We want to send a message to Lambeth Labour, Labour HQ and the Conservative-DUP government.
Our message is that ALL Lambeth voters deserve their say and must be listened to! That it isn't ok just to say you are pro EU or pro Windrush, that ACTIONS speak louder than words.

No matter how you voted in #EURef: use your next vote to support your fellow Lambeth residents
That is why, in addition to campaigning for an #ExitFromBrexit, @LambethLibDems will also earmark funding for new specialist legal advisors to help Windrush and EU Lambeth residents navigate the Home Office's byzantine procedures. It isn't right to leave them to struggle alone.
Finally:
Non-UK EU residents had no say in the #EURef - but they CAN vote on 3 May (maybe for the last time).

We call out to ALL Lambeth residents:
Add your voice. Take action. Recognise the hypocrisy of the Labour position on Europe.
