“You need to move the punishment for regulatory offences outside the criminal system.”
If they have grounds to suspect you, they don’t need your permission to search your car.
“If you don’t answer questions, you don’t give them grounds.”
-Lawyer at @CanadasNFA AGM
Bill C-71 will look at whole life:
- did you ever have a breakup?
- were you ever depressed?
- were you ever treated for mental illness as a child?
How are you going to contact the RCMP Registrar on the weekend?
(Try calling now. Long hold times. Often saturated.)
- will be exempt from Access to Information program.
“It’s not only a registry, it’s a secret registry.”
E.g. AR-15: Govt might say: “You can still shoot it, but there won’t be any more coming into the country.”
If Bill C-71 passes: “... will soon be moved to the ‘Prohibited’ list.”
Why it matters? CPIC is supposed to be a database of crime perpetrators, not victims.
