I'm not watching the SCOTUS hearings because I know how this shit goes.

The GOP knows Ketanji Brown Jackson is qualified. They're gonna play political theater and cry about us questioning Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett, who weren't qualified. (I won't bring up Gorsuch. I hate him, but he wasn't entirely unqualified--that's why the GOP is almost certainly bringing up qualms about the Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett hearings more than the Gorsuch hearing. I don't even have to watch or read about this bullshit to know this.)

Man, if you like Meghan Markle, the trolls come at you ALL DAY LONG. (I didn't even say "I love Meghan Markle!"

Which, for the record, I do. I followed her on Instagram long before she dated Prince Harry and watched "Suits." I passed on all the yoga posts because I'm lazy AF, but I ended up with my own rescue Beagle.)

FWIW, this is MY Twitter account.

If it bothers you that my focus isn't enough on politics--that I veer into talking about TV shows, movies, pets, or Harry and Meghan--you're free to unfollow me. Don't comment on it 'cause you're not fucking paying me to be on Twitter. You're free to argue with me about any of those topics, but don't tell me I shouldn't be talking about any of those things, or that you're not following me to hear about those things.

About the British monarchy... After Prince Harry left the UK, there were all these articles springing up in my Twitter timeline about how the monarchy couldn't survive it. /1 I kept thinking, "What the fuck is that all about? Why does Prince Harry need to be there for the monarchy to survive?"

Prince Charles managed to survive his disastrous marriage and other shit with very good PR and by being present and--to be fair--out-working everyone else. /2

Prince William's grandparents lived through WWII. He's supposedly going to be king of Northern Ireland one day, and they've definitely seen war and bloodshed during his lifetime.

I can't figure out if this comment is ignorant, racist, or both. There was the Balkans. Kosovo. Georgia is partly in Europe.

Agnes van Rhijn treats Peggy with respect and everyone else like they're grime under her fingernails. I find her relationship with Peggy fascinating because she has prejudices about literally everything else, and she talks down to everyone else. #TheGildedAgeHBO /1 It adds a layer to Agnes' character that keeps her from just being mean. She's resents that she had to marry an ol' bastard and has to take care of Ada, Marian, and her unworthy son. But Peggy is smart and self-sufficient--like her, but with better prospects. /2

This would be a good time for Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Both countries fulfill all requirements.

If they don't want to be in it in a year or two, they can pull out. NATO is not a cult. /1 A few years ago, very important people people swore to me that Ukraine would never, ever be invaded. "It's not Georgia," they swore, even after Georgia and Crimea (a fucking part of Ukraine) had obviously been invaded. /2

I voted for Obama in 2012, but I agreed with Romney that Putin was a massive geopolitical threat.

It's a credit to Senator Romney that he's not getting caught up in these political moments in 2022.

Dana Bash brought it up, but he quickly shoved it off as political rhetoric. I wish I'd caught the moment on my phone because Romney's eyes almost rolled back in his head at the end of the clip.

I'm no fan of Romney's, but he seemed annoyed. He had 5 minutes to speak on Ukraine, and Dana Bash wasted 2 minutes of it with his debate with Obama.

I know quite a bit about Finland. They have a huge military reserve for their size and population, and they crushed Russia, thanks to their great snipers, but this is modern warfare.

If they don't want to join NATO, fine, but Sweden should consider it. Don't say, "Well, Putin won't attack Finland/Sweden! It's not Ukraine!"

I heard a few years ago that he wouldn't attack Ukraine after he attacked Georgia. Then, he attacked Crimea. Then, no one thought he'd attack, like, Ukraine-Ukraine (even though Crimea *is* Ukraine).

I don't always get invested in missing persons cases, but I got invested in the #GabbyPetito one when I saw this. There are so many red flags about the relationship in these 2 minutes, and it was sad to see it written off in the police report as a "mental health crisis." /1 And it's sad even if she hadn't gone missing a couple weeks later. Gabby Petito was upset, but she calmed down over the course of the hourlong footage; the cops just chose to talk to the boyfriend more. /2

I bought Gilda washable doggy diapers until we can get a full work-up at the vet and figure out what's going on with her.

She is going to LOVE these, I'm sure. She may end up wearing them every night even after that, just in case.

She likely *won't* mind. I don't put her harness on for walks much in the summer (unless she's wily) because it's so hot, but she likes to wear it when it's cold.

In all the years I've read @JRubinBlogger, she's been fairly consistent. Sometimes I agree with her, often I don't. That's always been true.

Politico doesn't have a case here. The GOP left Jennifer Rubin. She was never going to follow Trumpism. Her history makes that clear. If any of her opinions have shifted at all, if her ideology has shifted even slightly, it's likely because Trumpism has given her a different perspective. A brush with a coup will do that to a person.

While I understand that Brian Laundrie was the one with a visible cut on his face, the police are quick to ignore that he locked Gabby Petito out of *her* van, away from her possessions. Some of the cops bro it up with him and act like she's nuts.

One of the officers seems unconvinced that Laundrie is as innocent as he's making it seem, but the louder one starts comparing it to his own marriage and forming a narrative. It's fascinating to watch.

I think I need to explain what Meghan Markle meant when she said this. I shouldn't, but apparently I must.

"When I joined that family, that was the last time, until we came here, that I saw my passport, my driver's licence [license], my keys. All that gets turned over." /1 Twist it however you want, but the moment she married Harry, she didn't have access to all of the things that all American women just take for granted in our daily lives. /2

This is a press-created scandal.

The major networks aren't even airing the press conferences that they get *every day* now.

We are being given information, daily, from the appointed @PressSec.

abcn.ws/2N5DM28 via @ABC This is the "Why isn't primary candidate Hillary Clinton giving us daily press conferences?" CNN counter of 2021. They're just sad they can't get "gotcha" quotes from the person they want to get them from.

You're getting press conferences. There's a @PressSec.

Huge understatement. Our industrial complex built the weaponry that won both wars.

We should've entered WWII earlier for obvious moral reasons, amongst others, the latter of which FDR understood.

Perhaps we weren't the great saviors of U.S. lore, but we funded the difference. WWI, in particular, was not "our war" to fight.

I've gotten nearly as many trolls for defending Meghan Markle as I did in 2016 for supporting Hillary over Bernie, Hillary over Trump, and tgeb in 2020 for supporting Biden over Bernie and then again over Trump. /1 These are annoying me even more, though, because they're trying to target my inner Karen. And my inner Karen is still a scrappy girl from Erie, PA who had to work for her all the shit she's got and would die of shame if she cried because she got an e-mail at 5:00 a.m. /2

What's outrageous is that the GOP is authoritarian and simply doesn't believe in democracy. This was a choice. They could have run on policy differences, both economic and foreign, and adjusted as the country grew around them. They have chosen racism, fear, and fascism. They've alienated their long-term supporters. @BillKristol. @SteveSchmidtSES. @FPWellman. @TheRickWilson. Colin Powell.

I'm a bit more hawkish on FP than the average Democrat and, until the GOP aligned with *Putin*, I could often be swayed over to their side. Not now.

This investigation by Buckingham Palace into supposed bullying is unprecedented because no one in The Firm has had to take orders from a Black woman--or any Black person--before.

That's all this is. Courtiers take orders from spoiled brats who think they've been chosen by God. There is no way you can make me believe that a woman who just married in--a 36-year-old woman whose former co-workers never had but nice words to say about her--swept in and bullied workers in something referred to as The Firm.

Fo' people in the North.

Keep. Your. Pets. Indoors.

I'm tired of plugging in a heating pad on my porch for my neighbor's cat, feeding my neighbor's cat. If it weren't illegal to take in their cat--even though she's not collared or chipped--I'd have 4 cats and a dog right now. If it's cold, make sure your fucking cat is indoors. If she wants to run out, block her with your goddamn feet. If she gets past your feet, coax her with some treats.
