It’s abundantly clear folks are learning the exact wrong lessons once again. So let’s break it down. First, about my race, the Governor endorsed against me for the first time and the Georgia GOP paid for digital ads and mailers. We should’ve lost some ground. 1/ Instead, we increased the margins in the district landing at 59% of the vote. My district is a sliver of blue arrows in a sea of red. I didn’t run to the center. I didn’t change my views because Democrats never get rewarded for compromising with Republicans. 3/ Image

Let’s break this down because yes *and* there’s more. First and foremost, if Trump wins it’s going to be because white voters continue to vote for him. The other side of the coin is if there is a softening in our coalition we lose. What does that mean? 🧵1/ Time after time we’ve shown in Georgia and elsewhere that democrats win when we expand our coalition. Yes, that means we have to care about more issues, but the basic ask of voters in our coalition is *we not hurt them.* Then from there help make things better. Seems fair. 2/

Seems like now is a good time to reshare this story. In 2017, NCCHR invited me to speak at their gala. I was honored they also invited me to a reception with legends like the late John Lewis, Andrew Young, etc. Jonathan Greenblatt was there too. 1/ Image He comes up to me, shakes my hand, and asks where I’m from. I told him I’m Palestinian and before I can introduce my husband he drops my hand and walks off. I didn’t know who he was at the time. I didn’t know his role. I was 24 and still figuring out the world around me. 2/

For weeks, I’ve been doing an electoral organizing series to fight back against the nihilism and despair that I’ve seen take hold online. The reality is, particularly in local elections, we are surrendering so much power. 1/ So many people responded about how they were learning so much because of what I shared. Even more talked about how they will now volunteer and seriously engage. Some even asked how to run for office where I sent them to amazing orgs like @runforsomething and @EmergeAmerica. 2/

Incredibly thankful to every single person at @uncommittedmvmt for creating a vehicle to apply pressure using all the levers available to us. While there’s a lot of conversations about the speaker slot, it was a culmination of months of intense work. Thread 👇🏼1/

First, to clear up some confusion about speakers, @uncommittedmvmt had been in negotiations with the DNC about speakers before this week. They were told that not getting a no was a good sign, but the DNC kept asking for more names. 2/

If you scroll through my content, you’ll see accounts like mine being targeted by a variety of bot and amplification groups to spread bad faith attacks and mis- and disinformation. I spent some time last night trying to get a better understanding of them. Thread👇🏼1/ A lot of what I’m seeing reminds me of 2016 but way more sophisticated and dangerous. For those who don’t remember, trump’s team and allies used our internet profiles to target us with messaging to win. 2/

I believe people change and the only time something someone said when they’re 20 matters is if they continue those views. In the case of Shapiro it’s relevant. A thread:👇🏼 1/ He tried to use his position as AG to target Ben & Jerry’s for refusing to operate in the West Bank which the ICJ has ruled is illegally occupied. 2/ delawarevalleyjournal.com/garrity-shapir…

For those new here, I'm going to lay out why it's not just polls that have me nervous. In 2020, I got laughed out of a meeting for saying Georgia would turn blue, and we'd win two senate seats. I was so sure because I was canvassing in one of the reddest counties in the state. 1/ In 2022, when everyone panicked about a red wave, I ran for office and won along with multiple young people around the country. We not only prevented a red wave but turned new voters out in droves. In my district alone, we increased turnout by 10 percentage points. 2/

So, I’ve received this video from a few people asking for my take. It’s actually a perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with the way we approach this, why she lost Michigan, and why we need to immediately course correct 🧵1/ It’s easy to fix something when you have a perfect enemy and a singular problem. But if that were true, we’d be in a very different place. She never once mentions the blockade on Gaza, the settler violence and occupation in the West Bank, the raids on Al Aqsa…2/

🧵My Statement on the Ongoing Violence Surrounding the Gaza Strip:

Although I’m a Georgia State Representative with little jurisdiction over international issues, I am Georgia’s first Palestinian Elected Official. 1/ #GAPol

That role comes with an added responsibility of representing a diaspora that rarely has democratically elected representation. As such, I feel compelled to comment on the horrific bloodshed we are witnessing surrounding Gaza. 2/

I remember running into @royceforatlanta right after this happened. He looked visibly shaken and I thought it was due to the SB140 hearing. He then relayed to me what happened. When I went to the desk an hour later after my meeting to ask the officers, no one denied it. 1/ When I spoke to the officers at the desk (most of them weren’t there during the incident) I mentioned that I just wanted to talk about the incident to remind them this is a very public space. One of them towered over me to tell me he’s the supervisor and began questioning me. 2/

There’s government light blue check marks apparently but I guess local government doesn’t count. Big yikes.

For the record, my team and I will not pay for verification. It defeats the whole purpose. Our handle is ruwa4georgia everywhere. Anything different is impersonation. Image For those wondering why any of this matters other than an exercise in vanity: ever since I got elected we’ve seen multiple accounts pretending to be me on multiple platforms. Some accounts attempt to hack others by sending malicious links or ask for money to steal from people.

Cop city isn’t complicated. I’ve given plenty of opportunity for folks to reach out and no one has provided adequate answers for our questions. The simple reality is the community around the forest want the area cleaned up and developed *as they were promised in 2017.* 1/ #GAPol They’re now being told the only way for that to happen is through cop city. It’s why I’ve found the most recent pr campaign offensive because it forces people to decide between a clean or disrupted community. This is an egregious bait and switch. People aren’t stupid. 2/
