If I was a young or a college student in need of a little income per month, now is a brief window of opportunity where you can make really easy apps dedicated to solving one problem using ChatGPT in a single step where many back and forth chats are required. Make the UI visual. Sometimes a few thousand dollars per month can empower you to think more ambitiously and the product building itself will teach you a lot about how to make things people want.

If you're strong at Python, TypeScript, and have been learning a lot of ML fundamentals but still ramping up, you may consider joining us to do Applied AI where you help prototype products at the intersection.

A great way to ship real things and be forced to learn ML basics. Happy to take some part-timers in between things.

It’s quite frustrating to feel so behind in software right now after so intensely being a student of it since 8th grade. I am not sure how to catch up other than just continuing to put in the work to accumulate AI knowledge. So if you feel that way, you’re not alone. I read 4-5 papers a week, write code, have a research team to fallback on, paring sessions, and a network of people to lean on and somehow none of it changes that feeling. I haven't felt this way since I started programming! What an incredible time to be in software.

A company with 100x less money is 100x more proficient at delivering global scale inventions in AI. It's inconceivable.

Google has practically lost and is the leader in not shipping. How many more events and showcases does it take to internalize this? I don't know. I went to an AI dinner and nobody mentioned Google once.

If I had to make a bet about what ChatGPT will disrupt in the mid-term, it’d probably be Wikipedia, not Google. I’ll be curious in a year if that’s roughly right. Wikipedia is ripe for a change up and not quite equipped for the moment. It doesn’t make a nice story though. But the vibes are very similar to when Wikipedia started and the world tried to convince young kids it was an invalid source of truth.

We are putting together an AI research engineering team to focus on creative tools with pixels. I’ll be on the team. Next year we should have a GPT-esque model. If we hire anyone you refer, we’ll give you $20K.

Looking for folks with experience in CV/LLMs.

The ultimate sign that the product managers have arrived: The TPS reports from this will be endless. That modal may get redesigned or repositioned but never replaced. When its numbers are up, people will rejoice at the all hands but when they are down: ah well, that metric is silly anyway

In about a year, there will be a high quality image for nearly anything you can imagine. Completely searchable with 100s variations. I am not even sure I can predict what it will end up becoming but it’s pretty neat. Sort of how the Internet keeps expanding. Google images looks fairly weak in comparison already. Searching through 20m images based on feelings and combinations of loose descriptions is quite fun. It’s a limitless feeling.

Good prompting skills will transfer to becoming good at prompt searching because of CLIP.

1/ A bit of news: last week I decided to stop working on Mighty after 3.5 years 😓. If anyone is interested in buying the IP, please reach out.

This week our team will begin work on making new kinds of creative tools using advances in AI. A new kind of Adobe Creative Suite. 2/ Why shutdown Mighty?

Much of the web is bound by single core performance of JS. The headwinds of the semi conductor industry are too strong to succeed at providing enough benefit for users. We could improve things by 2x but not 5-10x. Ok business, not mass market changing.

It's critical to be on the right side of a technological trend & to choose wisely. Typically when you pick it right, problems get solved with time automatically (cost, performance, size, etc) but if you pick it wrong you get stuck for longer or find yourself in a shrinking market For instance, blockchain scalability ended up not being as fast as people hoped limiting transaction volume keeping costs high.

Meanwhile GPUs perf improved 26x in 6 years.
