It’s Women’s History Day, and Gloria Steinem says she’s just got to mention “How different the world would be if we had elected Hillary Clinton instead of Donald Trump.”

Mika: “That’s a conversation for another day.”

BRAVA GLORIA
F- YOU, MIKA And now Joe is talking about a 30 year old meeting with Hillary and how “down to earth” he found her. “What a remarkable woman,” he said. Neither of them, of course, mentions how they tried to sabotage her 2016 election bid.

“Liberal” msm: Stop blaming GOP biased polls!! Here’s Times/Sienna. Note folks are forced to choose just ONE. Then note that “economy” is described as INCLUDING “jobs” & “stock market” but NOT “abortion” & “health care,” both of which profoundly affect “kitchen table” economics. Image To elaborate: (1) Choosing ONE forces people to prioritize one “problem” from many that may be EQUALLY important—and in fact, are intertwined rather than separate. (2) Specifying the “stock market” within “economy” arguably biased toward the priorities of wealthy responders.

Thread: Frustration of a media critic.
1) I’d really like to write a piece on the unholy synergy between ill-conceived polls and the “liberal” media. But that media refuses to own any responsibility. 1/ 2) Even now, Ari Melber is blaming the mistakes the MSM made on right-wing manipulation of the polls. What about the Times/Sienna poll that Kornacki quoted endlessly? 2/

Thread :
This section of the recent Times/Sienna poll shows very clearly how polls can mislead/slant voters. Yet (of course) the Times is citing it as if it were authoritative.
What’s wrong with it? Well, read this thread for a few issues: Image Concrete & abstract categories are thrown in there as though they are the same genre. “The state of democracy” is so vague as to be empty words for many voters, while “inflation or the cost of living” is something virtually all voters understand, because they feel it every day./2

So furious at constant juxtaposition of “economics” and “abortion.”
Like other stupidities, it ignores the fact that those precious fetuses who are so valued before birth become actual CHILDREN who have to be fed and clothed.
That’s economics, stupid. And Bernie Sanders, I’m talking to you too here.
Your concept of the “working class” is so gender and race blind it’s a wonder you haven’t been shouted down by “the squad.”
Oh wait, I forgot that they are still your groupies.
Abortion IS a “working class” issue, stupid.

May I remind the “liberal” media, once again, that Hillary Clinton was NOT “careless” with classified material, as Comey himself admitted under questioning by Congressmen Matt Cartwright and Elijah Cummings. (1) Image The press didn’t “notice” both then & now, as they continually press a distinction between Clinton “carelessness” w. classified material & Trump’s intentionality. The MSM will NEVER correct the record here, because they are guilty of creating AND amplifying the “email crisis.”2/

(1) Too many Americans think racism only applies to the Black/white duality that has so shaped American history But race is not a color. Indeed, it has no biological reality. It’s a social construction that has historically been attached to different people in different ways. (2) Racial designations are powerful, dangerous & of great historical consequence. But they aren’t static, & are not always color-based. The holocaust was clearly and toxicly “about race” because the Nazis viewed Jews as a (verminous, genetically inferior) race.

Isn’t it time for us to start talking about the intersection of racism and (a grotesque deformation of) masculinity? 1/ It seems so clear from the behavior of that Virginia thug parading as a cop that he enjoyed being a tough guy, enjoyed domination, enjoying showing it off for his fellow officers (as happens, too, when Frat boys group rape.) Showing you’re a Man. 2/

Both Karen Hallion and Glen Hanson have objected to my use of their work in my piece, and Karen has had the illustration of her piece removed. I can understand why they may have felt personally attacked, although that was not my intention. I inserted the following in the piece ➡️ "I’d like to make it clear at this point that my use of these illustrations was not to indict any individual artist, but to display evidence of what began to seem a trend. I’m a cultural critic, and it’s my job to notice such developments....(2)➡️

We don’t have a “divided” country that needs to “heal.”

The country is neither a wounded animal or a mega version of the Hatfields and McCoys. (1) What we are seeing is the result of the refusal of those who believe they are the rightful owners of the country to accept the fact that they are NOT. They cannot tolerate the fact that their reign is crumbling—demographically, politically, & culturally. (2)

Thread on “alternative reality”:

I wish the pundits and media people would stop using the term “alternative reality.” (1) “Alternative“ suggests multiple interpretations—such as exist for books, movies, and other texts.

“Reality” suggests some kind of legitimacy, even if only partial. (2)

“What was missing in Hillary?” MSNBC’s Chris Mathews put it to his panel of guests that night. 1/ During the next few weeks, we got a variety of answers to that question:
“She didn’t speak to the working class and their concerns.”
“She had no economic message.”
“She should have gone to Wisconsin.”
“She should have gone to Michigan.”
“She should have gone to Ohio.” 2/

Some Democrats, while urging people to vote for Biden, mourn how “underwhelming” he is, and how lacking in “charisma.” Reminds me a little of the “I’ll vote for her, but holding my nose” stuff that dragged enthusiasm for Hillary way, way down. 1/ The media (and the campaign itself) is emphasizing Biden’s capacity for empathy—and that is, indeed, a tremendously attractive quality. But I want to put a word in for something else that has become very evident about Biden (and that perhaps wasn’t so clear before): 2/
