okay so here's a good specimen: being fat is comparable, in this person's eyes, to murder, drug abuse*, and pedophilia

*lol one of these three is not like the others anyway, I think this says a lot about these people's moral conception of fatness: that it is first, a behaviour, and second, a morally reprehensible one, on par with Murder and Pedophilia

okay, now we DO need to talk about "wokies"

in addition to fat people "reveling" in our existence making us ineligible for "empathy," it seems being "wokies" functions similarly

not only our being open or proud offends them, but our being aware of social injustice does too why would being aware of injustices that affect them make someone ineligible for "empathy?"

people often argue that activists are strident & unpleasant, which can be true (I revel in it myself) but that is not a good reason to withdraw care if one shares ethical values with them

I'm also being informed that (ignore "wokies" for now; I know it's hard) fat people who "revel in their fatness" are the ones who don't deserve the empathy intended by the makers of The Whale

...so if we're not ashamed or apologetic, we are bad and undeserving of empathy, got it I said earlier the film probably isn't considered "glorifying obesity" bc the character suffers, which is considered a fat person's rightful fate, and only those of us who seem happy are considered out of line

am I drunk or is this consistent with that thesis?

You know what's a fucking cope? How whenever fat people discuss the cultural forces underlying antifatness, some chud barges in like YEAH BUT HAVE YOU HEARD OF HEART DISEASE

we have,

many times,

I promise. it seems to be very upsetting to people when we try to discuss those cultural forces, and biomedical health is a 100% reliable way to distract from that discussion

if weight loss were primarily a cultural practice with little efficacy toward health, what would that mean?

I don't know about you, but the last few days I have really been just AWASH in the empathy for fat people that The Whale's filmmakers say they intended it to inspire surely they intended that to include even fat people who have somewhat critical takes on media, because I mean, if not..........that *could* be interpreted as somewhat self-serving

I, for one, have learned a very important and solemn lesson from The Whale, which is that thin people really don't like it when you criticize their fatspo I will be extremely careful to mash this particular button as hard as possible in the future whenever I can as a result lol

all my normal rinks are about to close for the season and I don't know how I feel

usually I'd be sad and signing up for summer lessons to have ice time, but last summer I got into riding my bike like fat Evel Knievel as fast as possible on any dirt path in the woods I could find it turns out that I like any activity that involves 1) going fast and 2) doing scary things...it's a weird thing to learn about yourself in your 40s

I should check out the trampoline gym

I find it odd the only time a colleague who disagrees has engaged me recently was an anon acct responding to my "bored, pls troll me" request

do they think my points are too wrong to engage, or I'm too mean, or they agree yet still work in opposition to their values?

baffling I muted one (1) for bad faith years ago and they somehow became unmuted recently so I remuted after two comments

and there was one like a decade ago who called me a bimbo haha

are the rest all on Instagram doing canva art or something?

people are so super upset that I criticized the fat suit lol look, you're all allowed to like treacly glurge if you want to, and I'm allowed to make fun of it and be a hater

any purported concern I used to be able to dredge out of people in conversation toward fat people's health and wellbeing seems to have evaporated in the face of new drugs that seem to promise to eliminate fat bodies entirely it's annoying but I guess also unsurprising...thin people seem mainly concerned with their own fear of gaining weight, not with existing fat people's happiness or wellbeing

quick, someone get up and slap the person responsible for the fat suit in the whale welp that mofo won best actor for corny ass industry propaganda lmao we live in hell

fat tragedies dreamt up by thin people are really just fables about the inherent dignity and nobility of thinness

they are morality plays wearing fat suits they allow thin people to feel heroic, maybe even a bit patrician, for just existing

and they often portray fat people as uniquely, singularly mortal

I think thin people need portrayals of fat squalor and death to feel safe and special in their own frail animal bodies and lives

but my understanding from the blow up with mindy isser is that we're not supposed to talk about this bc it's antivax doomerism and makes people who've already had covid feel bad AND it harshes their yolo yeah I'm still mad

at this point, the vast majority of people have either had covid or been exposed, or maybe even had an asymptomatic case or a false negative test result, and that's a piss-poor excuse to not discuss the threat we've all been recklessly exposed to by our gov'ts

I've long suspected our leaders allow and thus use visible homelessness as the modern equivalent of heads on spikes in front of the castle, a warning to us all of what will happen if we don't toe the line, and the housing crisis since the pandemic started has not changed my mind there is no actual reason that people need to end up without housing, let alone visibly sleeping on the streets and in tent cities, other than lack of political will to budget for housing with the funds we all pay to live in a society

sometimes people who are treated like shit across the board don't express their position 100% perfectly while defending their right to exist, and I don't give a single solitary fuck about winning any form of "debate" that boils down to a bully telling us to stop hitting ourselves this goes on in my mentions whenever I talk about fat stuff: someone will be like "fat people shouldn't exist lol it's Science plus they're ugly" and a fat person will offer an exaggerated version of how weight stigma/medical bias worsens health, and now we're all Science Deniers

I'd love to hear more about how acknowledging a documented health disparity driven by weight stigma is the same as climate change denialism and also I'd love to hear why you think appeal to authority is the best argument supporting the hypothesis of anthropogenic climate change instead of, like, the data itself

pretty much none of the people who try to come for fat activists on this platform have the first clue what we actually think or what our actual positions are... they're just wildly swinging at their own shadow puppets and it's fucking bizarre but also kinda funny I spent like a decade trying to patiently outline what I actually believed and didn't believe about weight, health, ethics in health care + public health, but clowns do not care even a little about those things because they're all irrelevant to the performance they're putting on
