The "patriotic socialism" thing (I never one time identified as a "patriotic socialist" and fought that label tooth and nail) really went tits up, but our fellow Americans deserve more.
Socialism is a higher mode of production, not a culture war. We The People should benefit.
Patriotism itself is GREAT if we're talking about what Mao and Lenin were referring to. It's not if we're talking jingoism and support for the US state.
People from that movement *just as much as* its critics lose sight of the people. Socialism is about the people.

This is the kind of patriotism people have mistakenly attributed to proletarian patriots. This is the patriotism of the bourgeoisie, the support for US imperialism over both the domestic and international proletariat.
Proletarian patriotism is about OUR proletariat AS PART of a bigger, INTERNATIONAL proletariat. The point of patriotism here is that NO, the American PEOPLE are not unique; we are an occupied state, even if there is a stratum of comfortable workers most will never be a part of.

Degrowth is something being advocated for now. That means it retains a character of the prevalent ideology - the ruling ideology. No matter what you or me (proles) want it to mean (advocates link it to GDP), as there is a capitalist ruling class is austerity.
Further, I don't think we should "degrow" anything, either; the things we need to do to address require change, progress, and ultimately growth. Specifically growing our usage of nuclear.

preface: I'm tired of about 75% of the people associated with "the post left" and I was skeptical of the label the instant it came up.

1. the article is bad faith; an implication made early is that the post left is on right wing think tanks' payroll, but doesn't outright say it (the author knows they can't prove it) - later the author employs intentionally confusing sentence structure to repeat this implication
