I found answers in George Orwell’s writing. Zionism may be the symptom but the root cause is nationalism. a 🧵:
In 1945, as WWII was ending, Orwell penned his essay “Notes on Nationalism.” In it, he defines nationalism as “the habit of identifying oneself with a single nation or other unit, placing it beyond good and evil and recognizing no other duty than that of advancing its interests.”

Since @netflix’s #farhafilm has ignited a global debate around the Nakba (catastrophe) I thought I’d share an Al Nakba 101 🧵. Context: I have a degree in Palestinian & Zionist political history. I speak Hebrew and I lived in Palestine. 🇵🇸🏡
I want to start with a reminder that in these times of heightened racism and anti-Semitism, not all Jews are Zionists and vice-versa. Supporting Palestinians is also not anti-Semitic; it’s basic human decency. I shouldn’t need to explain that but I am anyway.
