Chinese censors explicitly banned use of Turkic Khaganate 突厥汗國, Tibetan Empire 吐蕃, Uyghur Khaganate 回紇, Goguryeo 高句麗 names in recent TV/Movies. That's why Turkic Khaganate in #TheLongBallad became 阿诗勒 Ashile tribe (阿史那Ashina Imperial clan of Göktürks) #长歌行
Yet the #TheLongBallad used real historic Turkic tribal confederation Toquz Oghuz 九姓铁勒 names like 拔野古 Bayïrqu and 同羅 Tongra. Presumably bc Chinese censors either too ignorant to realize or they know so few Chinese would recognize those names anyways so they don't care.
The ban extended even to manhua recently. 回纥#Uyghur Khaganate in Old version of Memories of Chang'an 王爷不要啊 (拾忆长安) had been renamed to 汐月 Xiyue, homophone of 西域 Xiyu Western Region.
