Soy is one of the most well-known sources of #PlantBased protein.

While many people enjoy dishes made from #soy, others are concerned about soy’s environmental and health impacts.

Today, we are taking a close look at the impacts of soy and the many myths that surround it.👇 1/8
Many people worry that #soy increases cancer risks.

However, these concerns are based on #animal studies, which found that rodents who were exposed to high doses of isoflavones, compounds found in soy, showed an increased risk of breast cancer. 2/8

Human studies produced different results.

A study, which followed 70,000 women over 7 years, showed that those who consumed the highest amounts of #soy had a 22% lower chance of getting breast cancer than those who consumed the least. @HarvardChanSPH 3/8

I'm wasn't really sure at first how to start this, but I wanted to start to speak a bit about mental health. As this is a #space page, I decided to start with some research. In #spacepscyhology researchers consider #mentalhealth. (1/9) #MentalHealthAwareness
#space #pscyhologists look to studies in Antarctica (an extreme, isolated environment) to essentially have a larger population to study due to the small sample size of our astronauts currently. In addition to speaking with current & former astronauts. (2/9) #AcademicMentalHealth
I hope though, I can encourage others to have that conversation informally. I've seen the benefit of starting this conversation in practice. Especially in my classmates while I study at university, and even colleagues at a conference. (3/9) #AcademicMentalHealth

A massive thank you to all the incredible people involved. Without you it wouldn't have been possible. #AcademicChatter #AcademicMentalHealth 1/ Image
Mental health is part of us all. It does not make us lesser researchers. That's evidenced by the incredible people in this project. It's time to normalise the conversation around mental health. It's okay to not always be okay. 2/

I started advocating for improving #AcademicMentalHealth just over a year ago, and have been blown away with the community on here. I've worked on increasing awareness of mental health issues and reducing the stigma. Here is an outline of my projects ⬇️ 1/n Image
The #100voices campaign, where 100 brave researchers have come forward to tell you about their mental health journeys, because mental health is part of us all, and it doesn't make us any less of a researcher. You can find the full project here:

My mental health posters, covering various aspects of #AcademicMentalHealth from undergrad to professor. These are to act as talking points and start the conversation about mental health in academia - something that is prolific but seldom spoken about.
