Today Trudi and I are visiting Whatcom, Island and Snohomish counties to learn about local innovative projects that help our environment, promote clean energy and protect WA’s native species.
This morning we celebrated the grand opening of the newest solar panel manufacturing line at @SilfabSolar. This Ontario-based company chose WA for its US-based solar factory, and supports 160 #cleanenergy jobs right in downtown Bellingham. 
As the largest #solarpanel manufacturer in North America, @SilfabSolar is proving that WA is the #1 state to do business in – especially if your business is #cleanenergy.
While coal is becoming less economically viable, #cleanenergy is surging. Today, news broke that two coal plants that supply power to WA state will close ahead of schedule because they are no longer economically viable.

Washingtonians have long supported transitioning off of coal power to clean sources of electricity. In WA state, we're making sure that transition brings opportunities that benefit local communities and does not leave people behind.
Our plan to close WA's last operating coal plant in Centralia provided for $30 M to diversify the local economy & support workers' transition to new careers. Those efforts continue today. I applaud the Colstrip owners' commitment to also supporting their local community.
After signing a bill that bans fracking for oil and natural gas within WA state, I shared how the emerging science emphasizes the urgency of #climatechange and the environmental impacts of natural gas make it clear that our state needs to invest in #cleanenergy infrastructure.
We’ve always leaned on science to guide our efforts on #climatechange. The accelerating threat and the emerging science on the damaging impacts of natural gas mean we must focus our efforts on developing clean, renewable, fossil-fuel free energy sources.

Being committed now to #100percentclean electricity and signing a bill prohibiting fracking in WA, we want to be consistent to a spirit of progress. I cannot in good conscience support construction of a liquefied natural gas plant in Tacoma or a methanol facility in Kalama.
Building on the momentum from states & utilities (see catf.us/wp-content/upl…), @TinaSmithMN & @repbenraylujan introduced legislation today that would put the US electricity sector on a path to #100PercentClean, the Clean Energy Standard Act of 2019:

The bill is notable and important contribution to efforts to build national consensus for serious clean energy and climate policy action. Here's why I like it...
1. There's broad consensus electricity is the linchpin in any effort to confront #climatechange, not only because it's responsible for ~30% of US CO2, but also because electrifying more energy use in transportation, buildings, & industry is key to decarbonize those sectors too.
All throughout our state and our nation, a mighty chorus is ringing out to say climate change is REAL, and the time for leaders to act is NOW. #WAleadsonclimate #ClimateAction #WeAreStillIn #cleanenergy
