After a year of relative peace, we have received word from what would have been the developer at Landback Lane. They intend to reapply for their injunction. Image
We are taking this very seriously. We see it as an open threat against our people and our lands. The violence they can wield with the help of the courts and cops is disgusting. Image
On March 22 Foxgate will be looking to schedule a time with the court to have this process restarted. This same process led to 50 people being arrested, saw us get shot at, tasered and beaten. We watched as our loved ones dragged were from their cars, swarmed with brutality Image

This is what real Nation to Nation looks like, Haudenosaunee and Wet'suwet'en family standing together against the colonial violence and corporate greed that threatens the safety and well-being of future generations.
The Wet'suwet'en have called on their Allies across Turtle Island to stand with them. They need boots on the ground, people in the streets, folks amplifying on social media, wherever you are, whatever you can do can make a difference.
Forcing Indigenous People from their lands is an act of genocide. When we stand together, we can fight back against the violence Canada brings to our homelands at the end of a barrel.

Two days ago, police executed a warrant against one of our non-native allies. With riot shields and guns drawn, eight officers arrested this ally on our territory for mischief and disobeying a court order.
Every person arrested in relation to #1492LandBackLane face these two nuisance charges, however, this level of force during an arrest is a severe escalation. These tactics are meant to intimidate our allies who stand alongside us as we resist the unwanted development of our lands
Canada is a colonial state that is choosing to use police violence and a prejudicial system of laws to legitimize the theft of lands from our future generations of Haudenosaunee children.

Day 121 #1492LandBackLane Update from Skyler Williams

We know these threats of more police violence is all we can expect from the OPP. They don’t have any other means of dealing with onkwehonwe people.
We will continue our peaceful occupation of our lands despite their threats and their attempts to intimidate us. This is Haudenosaunee Territory!!!
We are working hard today to restore our camp after that crazy wind storm last night. Several of our tents got destroyed. Others blew down. So now that the wind calmed down a bit, we can get this work.

Day 100 Update from Skyler Williams

100 days at #1492LandBackLane!!!
100 days in the desert. A desert created by this developer. Every blade of grass, every shrub and tree all stripped from the lands. Cover everything in concrete and asphalt in the name of progress. This is destruction. Far more then any barricade could ever do.
If you were waiting for the callout this is it.

If you have the capacity to come. Come. Whatever amount of time. Whatever your capacity. Pitch a tent. Stay the night. The weekend. The week or the month.

Day 98 #1492LandBackLane Update

The OPP have significantly raised their numbers. Cops have made contact to ask for concessions. To open roads. To undo all the things that they’ve caused. Stop shooting at our people.
As of today all the roads remain closed. Rails are closed. We’ve said no to development. We’ve said violent OPP tactics will not be tolerated. So now here we are. Again.
Unity is the topic of discussion today. 100 years of government meddling to undo. This is true of most of our communities. What we need so dearly across all turtle island is to come together. You tactics to divide our communities will no longer work. We are in this together.

Skyler on Facebook:
Canada’s New Land Claims “Police”y

If you arrest enough of us. Eventually, there will be enough of us behind bars. Buried under the weight of heavy bail and release conditions.
The courts are trying to extinguish land claims through injunctions. Using violent police action to enforce those orders whenever the proper land holders say no.

The rampant criminalization of us asserting our rights and honouring our connection to the land has to stop.
This is Haudenosaunee land. We will not be deterred. We will always return. Our obligation to this land is far greater then anything you could do to us. You will not take from our future generations their inherent right to this land!

Companies now frequently obtain injunctions to prevent Indigenous people from erecting blockades, interfering with project activities or exercising other “self-help” remedies intended to protect and preserve their lands.

When a court grants an interlocutory injunction it is not deciding which party is “right”. Instead, the purpose of an injunction is to preserve the status quo until the underlying dispute is resolved.

People have taken back McKenzie Meadows and repurposed it as #1492LandBackLane. Every indication is that these Haudenosaunee people are peaceful, but persistent. Understanding this reclamation fully requires challenging the perspective that the Canadian one is supreme.

1/17
Let’s start with at least considering the idea that most of the land now occupied within six miles of the banks of the Grand River was obtained illegally by Canada from Six Nations.
2/17
The Crown promised this land to Six Nations leaders in the midst of centuries of friendship but that friendship is barely acknowledged - particularly by the Crown.
