There is so much on my mind as we begin the post-mortem takes.

I will not lie, Im sad and disappointed. Not really by the new government of the day, but by what the people clearly endorsed with their votes... and rejected with their silence.

I'll explain.
Young people, more than perhaps other blocks, were disenfranchised. But, if we're going to keep it 100, way too many didn't even show up to the polls.

While I expected it, McAlpine lost. We have not elected an independent candidate in 19 years. If he couldn't do it.. who can?
There appeared to be little consideration for the candidate in the ballot, only the party. We have steamrolled yet another administration out of office and given them a massive majority. It makes for great memes, but also for a less diverse House. When will we learn?

Voting is not the only way to be heard. It's one opportunity every five years. Participation in governance goes beyond one X, one day, one sound rejection.

What people complain about daily is not generally changed by voting or changing admin. It takes more than that.

No one has to qualify to speak by voting. Voting is one important action. There are many others that, quite frankly, can be more effective just by virtue of being initiated and driven by the people.

Many did not vote on Sept. 16, 2021. They can still be active citizens.
That said, complaining on social media is one thing. It is, at best, cathartic. It, on its own, does not create change.

Learn to go beyond ranting about what is not working.

What will work? How can we get there? What does it require of us? Who do we need on our side?
