Zalatel says on Dec 14 they had a meeting of the utilities and enterprise oversight committee dedicated to the port. She highlights that the port isn't a topic they discuss at the dyas regularly, but the meeting was intended to create a stable plan on funding. #ANCgov

Low attendance at the Chambers today, as has been largely the norm since the rules change that moved Audience Participation to the end of the meeting in favor of appearance requests. A gaggle of students in the room though, thanks local government classes! #ANCgov

Just arrived at the Assembly Chambers for the meeting of 10/25! Thread to ensue. #ANCgov #ANCHgov
Mellow day at the Chambers so far, only 12 members of the public in attendance as of now. Trombley was outside giving an interview about the NavCenter, saying that due to the process there's no reason for the assembly not to continue funding the project. #ANCgov
LaFrance says we're going to give an extra couple of minutes before starting the meeting due to the weather and at least one member is running behind due to an accident on the highway. Must be either Perez-Verdia or Allard, Quinn-Davidson is on the phone, everyone else present.

Alright, made it into the Chambers for the August 9 Assembly meeting. On the heels of the embarrassing Gerace debacle and the ongoing humanitarian crisis at Centennial, this should be interesting. "Looking forward" to the Mayor's report. #ANCgov #ANCHgov
Sparsely populated, so far. The Save Anchorage crew must be running a minute behind. Also, it's really cold in here.
Sulte brought a large bucket of popcorn. #ANCgov Image

Just arrived at the Chambers for the Assembly meeting of 7/12. Sorry I missed the Mayor's and Chair's reports, those are always interesting. I am here for audience participation though! Looks like we're migrating from #ANCgov to #anchgov to prevent confusion with other government
Ah, my mistake, not Audience participation. We are approving the special election, which Daniel Volland won, placing him as the 12th member of the assembly. #ANCHgov
Constant says that through the work of the Fairview community, they were able to fight for equal representation with the rest of the municipality. He describes the process and time it took. He urges support. #ANCHgov

Alright, here down at the Anchorage Assembly for the March 15th public meeting. Lots of public hearings on the agenda today, so I'm expecting this one to run long! #ANCgov Image
We've got Stephanie Taylor in the audience tonight! Curious to hear what she'll bring to the table, if anything, or if she's here to witness. #ANCgov
APD also has a strong presence, lots of men in uniform who were standing off to the side but now have taken stance in front of the dyas. #ANCgov ImageImage

Just made it to the Mountain View Library for the Alaska Community Input Session on Police Accountability. Small crowd so far, but lots of Taco King! I'll do my best to keep a thread going of what goes on during the session 🤟 #ANCgov
I'll probably try to leave names out of this one, as I'm not sure who is going to feel comfortable with that information being shared.
We begin the session with a land acknowledgement in regional language followed by a translated version. It's a larger acknowledgement than more localized conversation, as this is a statewide community meeting.

Bronson wants to redo his own #ancgov record, so let's set it straight! 🧵1/14

Politics:
▫️ABT member for 30 years, cofounder of Alaska Family Council w/ Jim Minnery
▫️Led AK Family Council thru fights against equal rights protections, 2009-2018
▫️Lost to Elvi Gray Jackson, 2011
▫️Bronson's mayor campaign led by Axiom Strategies & dark-money GOP affiliates
▫️$33,000 campaign fines for illegal reporting, missed deadlines
▫️Called the Assembly "idiots"
▫️Now in office, refers to "his enemies"
▫️Supported Trump and armed insurrection *the day of* Jan 6
▫️Launched his campaign on Day 1 as a Save Anchorage candidate ...
▫️Then claimed to not know them but "appreciate the support" (wife Deb a Facebook group member since July 2020)
▫️Endorsed a full slate of Save Anchorage candidates, with loyalty to him the only real policy

Now that the candidates for the Assembly have been announced, I'm gonna start digging into who will be on the ballot. First up is Stephanie Taylor, who will be challenging Forrest Dunbar for East Anchorage. #ANCgov 1/
On Taylor's website, she lists her issues: Homelessness, Re-Investing in Downtown, and Taxes. Let's start with Homelessness. She claims we are "coddling" the houseless and need to hold them "accountable" for their crime and drug use. #ANCgov 2/
She continues that we must partner with non-profits and faith-based group to help the houseless. This is tantamount to saying that the city government has no direct responsibility to its houseless citizens, and rather independent orgs and churches should bear the weight. 3/

The chamber is pretty quiet, most wearing masks. An unmasked Santa and elf from Save Anchorage are handing out something to Assembly members and Mayor Bronson. They wanted to join the party! #ANCgov
Gaveled in, with all members present. Constant, Zaletel, Perez Verdia on the phone.
Pledge-screamer Jeff Fenske punctuates the Pledge of Allegiance.

1/4 there seems to be a lot of conversation about #JamieAllard blocking constituents, she has done so to many of her constituents. She has blocked people without even having conversations with them, she blocked them purely as a result of a differing opinion.
2/4 when does that become illegal? “a site is more likely a site for government business if a public official generally allows individuals to ask for government services through a social media account, links through the account to a public office address, email or phone number,
3/4 displays government symbols, shares information about government services or meetings, and/or asks for input about how government business should be conducted” #JamieAllard has provided #SaveAnchorage with talking points and links. While often asking what they want to see.

Today's Assembly #ANCgov meeting starts at 5pm, Tuesday November 23 at the Loussac Library and streamed online. Business includes next year's budget, a resolution honoring Eugene Haberman, more board appointments.
Agenda here:
muni.org/Residents/Page…
Meeting starts shortly. Most in the room are wearing masks, even if they clearly don't want to. Perhaps they decided they don't want to watch at home, which is the alternative option, in the Assembly policy. #ANCgov
Everyone present in the chambers tonight! Even Bronson.
Chair LaFrance reminds that masks are required, available & rules will be enforced.
Meeting gaveled in. The usual start: roll call, pledge, land acknowledgement. #ANCgov

Dr. Morris seems to be playing both sides:
"Other communities built or bought well-designed facilities to provide services & shelter more efficiently and with more effective outcomes." But then... #ANCgov 1/5
adn.com/opinions/2021/…
The same Dr. Morris: "Building or buying facilities we do not need would waste precious resources. Building too small would doom our efforts before we even begin, leaving our neighbors out in the cold. Real-time, accurate data should drive decision making, not politics." 2/5
And can someone please explain to Morris why the homeless service system is different than hospitals?
"Could you imagine walking into a local hospitals, finding it full, and staff saying 'We only have diagnosis for 1/4 of patients, but we are sure the rest need to be here.'" 3/5
