The #AadhaarAmendmentsBill is a further assault upon Constitutional values and the Supreme Court's judgment. Our statement, in screenshots. 1/n 
We reiterate our concerns on the rampant expansion and function creep of Aadhaar. We reiterate our demands made to MPs.

2. Undertake a thorough and transparent public consultation on the Bill and the amendments and introduce any Aadhaar-related legislation in Parliament only after such a consultation in accordance with the pre-legislative policy 3/n
We find it outrageous that the government has issued such an ordinance. This is contemptuous of the courts and our Parliamentary democracy. The ordinance will be challenged. A reminder: Private entities are prohibited from using Aadhaar; doing so would be a violation of SC orders

Friends, the #AadhaarAmendmentsBill could be introduced in #RajyaSabha tomorrow, Feb. 12. Please join us in demanding of our MPs that they send the Bill to a Select Committee for thorough scrutiny.
Here's our earlier thread talking about the concern letter sent by citizens to the #RajyaSabha Chairperson @MVenkaiahNaidu and the PM @narendramodi. We demand that MPs across the political spectrum oppose the passage of these amendments.
#Parliament reconvenes today for the final #BudgetSession of this govt. We are watching out for two key bills: the Aadhaar Amendments Bill and the DNA Bill. Concerned citizens have sent a letter to @MVenkaiahNaidu and @narendramodi demanding withdrawal and scrutiny of the Bills.
Briefly, the #AadhaarAmendmentsBill seeks to circumvent the SC Judgment on #Aadhaar and allow private entities to use Aadhaar-based biometric authentication/ eKYC. In effect, the Bill gives the govt power to create new laws allowing private entities to use the Aadhaar number.
We remain deeply concerned that the government has shown no urgency regarding the #DataProtectionBill, nor has it ensured that #Aadhaar-based authentication is used only on a purely voluntary basis even for subsidies and welfare schemes as recommended by the SC.

On Friday, Jan. 4, Lok Sabha passed the #AadhaarAmendmentsBill with very little debate and scrutiny. We hope that the Rajya Sabha will offer more resistance to the Bill. We demand that Parliament review, rethink, and rework this awful Bill.

We are also alarmed by the government misleading Parliament, both on the Bill itself and on the purported savings resulting from linking Aadhaar to various schemes. IT Minister RS Prasad has claimed that the Amendments are in compliance with the SC whereas they can SC orders.

1. The Aadhaar Act undermined the Rajya Sabha and was passed as a Money Bill. Justice Chandrachud in his judgement in WP 494 of 212 clearly declares the passage of the Aadhaar Act as a FRAUD ON THE CONSTITUTION. Passing an Amendment to a Fraudulent Act is furthering the FRAUD
2. The Aadhaar Act has undermined democratic processes, worse than Cambridge Analytica – By enabling Private Parties in the ecosystem of Aadhaar to MANIPULATE VOTERS BY TARGETING SUBSIDIES – Benefits & Services rather than ensuring – NO ONE IS EXCLUDED
UPDATE: The govt plans to introduce these amendments in Parliament tomorrow (Jan 2nd). This is a continuation of the govt's doublespeak and constitutional fraud on Aadhaar. These amendments will once again allow rampant, commercial exploitation of citizens' personal data.
We request Members of Parliament to oppose the introduction of this Bill, which seeks to circumvent the Supreme Court's judgment of Aadhaar and allow private telecom service providers and banking companies to use Aadhaar-based authentication / e-KYC.
Instead, we demand that the government follow a democratic process and undertake a wide public consultation on all Aadhaar-related legislation. The amendments now proposed should also be scrutinized by the appropriate Parliamentary Standing Committee.
