In terms of likeâŚquality and treatment it didnât seem much different than neighborhood schools. Our specific charter was in deep budgetary issues so we ainât have more money than neighborhood schools, but it was really an exception
It wasnt a âcharter networkâ so they werenât tryna expand or take over schools or nun like that. It was founded by a local activist who was a Black woman from the community in the 90s before the whole âcharter boomâ n shit and it becoming a whole industry for predatory white folk

In Class. I use crutches and in class, figuring out where to put them was a bit of a mess. They needed to be in reach so I would put them on the floor or try to lean them against something, but they would wind up tripping either the other kids or Ms Crutchfield.
It was a constant dance of figuring out where they should be, until one day, I walked into class and there were broom clips nailed into the side of my desk.
