His administration was populated w/homophobes who were indifferent to gay men dying from a disease transmitted primarily thru sex. There was widespread public fear/hostility, too. Many hospitals isolated AIDS patients, even demeaning them as they died.
Most of all, there was so much public stigma directed at people w/HIV-AIDS. So much fear. So much ignorance. Gay men, the primary early victims, were left to suffer alone. Even now, those at risk from #COVID r mocked. washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/09…

(hand) Pump Primer:
India 1999: I worked in WATSAN. Over 1000 new handpump tubewells would replace contaminated shallow wells & rusting pumps that often stood in puddles. You paddled to collect drinking water, and the puddle seeped into the well.

The Good: The new pumps were installed on large concrete platforms, in turn mounted on a large buried concrete ring. This stopped water undermining the platform, which would crack and break up the concrete. Back to puddles and contamination.

I want to tell you about an amazing piece of theatre I saw last year. It's called #Rapids - written by @SeanieLove presented by @TalkShopTheatre - The piece explores instances of disclosure and the presence of stigma in the lives of men and women who are living with #HIV
The good news is that #Rapids is coming back in 2019 - RAPIDS National Tour kicks off Feb 2019 Venues BOOKING NOW @Droicheadarts @EverymanCork @projectarts @LimeTreeTheatre and more to be announced soon. #RapidsTour - It's a must see.
I was honored to be asked by @SeanieLove & @TalkShopTheatre to create the graphics for the poster. I got @hazelcoonagh to do the photography (cos she's amazing) - We photographed people who had fabric blowing over the faces, the idea that something is hidden.

The genius of in 2011, Mother was to create a LGBT+ club that focused on good electronic music. Every club played chart music, but we wanted something different. We also wanted to create a house party vibe and the people who created Mother became a family.
I was asked to create the brand for the club and even then, I was heavily influenced by the reclaimed symbolism of the Pink Triangle - The Pink Triangle was used by the Nazis to identify homosexuals in the death camps during WWII - Later it become a LGBT icon

Vincent grew up in my home town of Clonmel. His radio career started out with @RTE2fm (fromely RTÉ Radio Two) but he became a household name in the early 80s as the host of a weekly magazine style Music TV show called MT USA.
The first action by @ActUpDublin was 2 years ago this week. We were ringing the alarm bell about Ireland's #HIV crisis outside The Dept of Health @roinnslainte just before #WorldAIDSDay 2016 - HIV IS A POLITICAL CRISIS #ACTUP
We talk to the public, we engage with the communities affected by #HIV, we lobby politicians, write reports and submissions to Government, we organise pubic meetings and events. We demonstrate, We educate We are not silent. #ACTUP

A few years ago, after a stable relationship had finished. I was feeling quite low. I went out with friends and tried to have fun. I got chatting to someone over a few drinks and before we knew it, we were back at my place. I wanted intimacy and passion back in my life
Generally, my prevention method has been to use condoms, but we got carried away. I didn't say anything about using a condom and neither did they. Next morning, mid-hangover the fear started to creep over me. Had I put myself at risk of getting #HIV?
