@pamconstable1 From your @washingtonpost article:
“The Taliban wants to segregate women. So it’s training female doctors.”
“This makes me feel like we have done something useful, that all my years of fighting were worth it,” said a Taliban security guard..
washingtonpost.com/world/2023/01/…
Taliban are NOT training women to become doctors:

Taliban banned #Aghanwomen from attending universities and from getting higher education in Afghanistan, according to the letter released by the Taliban's Ministry of Higher Education. cbsnews.com/news/taliban-b…
I have to ask: just exactly how many #AfghanWomen did you interview before you published this story? I think you need to do more research: globalcitizen.org/en/content/afg…

2. That's the choice many professionals in #Afghanistan have to make right now. In 2019 we at @NewsHour profiled the incredible Dr Shefajo, a top gynecologist. "My daughters want to be doctors," she told me then. Now, her eldest is not even allowed in school as per #Taliban rules Image

1. Tomorrow on radio I will share the letters exchanged between me and the prime minister of Pakistan. In the hour of desperate need I reached out in the hopes that some sort of leadership could be found to help us do the impossible. @ImranKhanPTI Con’t
2. We reached out and asked numerous leaders in political and civil society around the world for help. The silence was shocking as was the outpouring help on a humanitarian basis. Some calls and requests received a simple yes or no, some went unanswered but …. CON’T
3. we received an immediate response to our requests from Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan who then acted on his willingness to assist.Collectively, we transcended religious differences, political divides, national boundaries and local dynamics - it was about a humanitarian

At least the West must acknowledge and accept that after a botched up, ill-planned exit from Afghanistan, the looming humanitarian crisis is their responsibility. Before they lecture the world on universal human rights, they must practice what they preach!
2. Easy to blame Pakistan for its (continued) support to Taliban, even easier to blame Afghanistan's neighbours not accepting refugees.

What is hard to admit: Yes we fuc*ed up big time, killed hundreds of thousands and wasted billions of taxpayers' money.
"We had no plan!"
3. The White Saviours' project of liberating #AfghanWomen was convenient, marketable in 2001 but certainly matters little in 2021. Shows how skin-deep and opportunistic it was then and now!

1/9: #Afghanistan is a stark reminder that in foreign policy you need both to be clear about your goals and to execute them well. Over years the #US and its allies fell short on both counts.
2/9: The intervention was legitimate & justified (unlike Iraq). An act of self-defence to halt a clear international terror threat. The first purpose was not to end #Taliban rule, but to deal with a consequence of it. Of course the two rapidly merged.
3/9: Inevitably once we were there new goals were added. Suppressing poppy growing for opium, protecting & supporting #Afghanwomen, nation building, training armed forces. All laudable goals, but where to draw the line & how to define success?

To all you lefties.. we know that Trump wanted our troops out too! It’s not about removing our troops, IT’S THE WAY IT WAS CARRIED OUT! Trump actually had a plan which is more than can be said for Biden. #Afghanishtan #BidenMustResign #BidenDisaster #AfghanWomen
Of course Trump wanted them out, everyone did, republicans and democrats, BUT common sense tells you that you should remove the people FIRST, then the military equipment and lastly the troops.
Who in their right mind would have the troops all pull out and leave the people and millions of dollars worth of military equipment behind for the taliban to get their hands on?! No one would!

1. The Carrot and the Stick in the Afghan Game

We might be tempted to feel sympathy for the Afghans who are fleeing the Taliban, but we should not be. For it is all an elaborate game even if not all the participants are quite aware of it.
2. Most Izl@mic countries alternate between an absolute Iz!@mic theocracy like the Taliban rule and a quasi-Iz!@mic rule like the rule by the 'secular government' of Afghanistan which was just ousted.

#Taliban
3. The Iz!@mic theocracy does what it does: implement Shariat ruthlessly. At first it just generates overseas sympathy and the useful idiots in the welfare states and millennial ruled countries start feeling for the ‘victims of repressive regimes’ in countries like Afghanistan.

It is of course sad that #KabulHasFallen but here are some important aspects to consider.
The population of #Afghanistan is very very young. The median age in the country is 18.4 years. Approx 42% of the country is younger than 14! Meaning, they were born after 2001.
Close to 27% of the population of #Afghanistan lived in cities. They were exposed to media of various kinds (radio was the predominant medium in rural Afghanistan).
Those who were young and urban dwellers were mostly educated until secondary schools or were even enrolled in universities.
Of the 38 million Afghans, 10 million were students!

For the last few days, I’ve witnessed a social media war among #Afghan women. This appears to have started with my English interview on @WIONews but it seems few of the people who commented actually listened to my remarks. #Afghanistan
I was highlighting earlier statement of Gen. Ahmadzai, who claimed improper & corrupt practices at @ARG_AFG. His claims are vague, but worth investigating. Disappointed other female leaders in #Afghanistan reacted quickly w/blanket assurances that nothing of this sort happens.
I respect all women in the government and have been a supportive colleague to most of them. I’m saddened to see @AWNKabul behaving as though I was demeaning women in public service—obviously not my intention. Listening to my interview should have made that clear. #herAfghanistan
