It was a lot, this #agile2022. There are people I would have liked to visit that I saw only in passing. I spent a lot of time in the company of people, and made new friends as well as hanging with long-established friends.
Overall, it was more people than I'm used to. I was rather exhausted as I'm not used to maintaining my energy. Being an introvert in a huge crowd takes some opportunism.
At least a few times last week, we pulled back the curtain a little too soon; we showed agility that people weren't ready to see.
People work hard building process, discipline, and clarity; much of that eventually can become cruft that teamwork sweeps away.

We have known how to build software for a while now, and the question is,
Why don’t we?

The alternative typically presented is structurelessness.
Let every team do exactly what it wants, whoever keeps doing it longer without getting fired wins the argument.

People don’t feel safe without structure.

The Real Meaning of Agile (Read Thread)

Doing something in an agile way means making a small change quickly, learning from it, making adjustments to our understanding of the problem and repeating this many times.
The 4 values the agile manifesto states are these:

- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
- Working software over comprehensive documentation
- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
- Responding to change over following a plan
Agile is not a methodology with rules and processes to follow. At its roots agile is a simple and fast way of learning and improving by taking small steps, one after the other.
