No further riots in #Akron last night. Police firmly enforced the curfew put in place after Sunday's riots.

Additionally most of the rioters arrested were not quickly released. As of this morning there's about 40 of them still in County jail on riot charges.

The police precnese was very large from the beginning. There were easily a 3 to one ratio of police to protesters and at aomepoint got higher as night kept going.
Below are a few clips on moments the crowd experienced.

Akron PD Abuse: You can't reform this.

Video released today shows cops shooting an unarmed Black man more than 60 times.

Today was far from the first time this PD has been racist and abusive.

According to the body cam footage:

Around 40 seconds after initially failing to stop for officers, a gunshot is reported coming from the suspects vehicle. When the tasers failed, the pursuit ended with the suspect quickly turning toward the officers.
Inside the suspect’s vehicle were a handgun and loaded magazine

An idea to build a brighter future for local news instead of applying band-aids to the moment:

Create a revolving loan fund to start, support and expand local news co-ops and nonprofits.

I think $300M would work. But why should the feds? And how? A long thread... /1
Let's say that $300M funds 500 news co-ops and nonprofits, starting to offset the 2,100 newspapers @businessofnews says we've lost since 2004.

A revolving loan fund means that money goes out then comes back to fund another 500 and so on. /2 usnewsdeserts.com/#1536248669354…
There's precedent too.

In the 1930s, 90% of rural homes didn't have electricity because private companies wouldn't invest in it.

You think quality journalism is expensive? Ha! Imagine running power lines out to the boonies when 97% of US landmass is rural. /3
