Just heard about #puppetgate.
I’m autistic. I’ve done my share of acting. I love puppets and puppetry.
I do *not* like whatever the hell that grey goblin thing is supposed to be. Whatever it is, it’s not supposed to be human, but you know, I guess that’s the entire point.
Society already sees us as subhuman. Like we don’t have joys and pleasures, or if we do, we’re told not to enjoy them and not to express that joy. They shock us into acting normal because if we don’t, we get ostracised for our autism. Not our ‘autistic traits’, out autism.
So every day we act. We act normal. We act neurotypical. We act allistic. We act like we don’t care about superheroes or anime or Disney or space or whatever SI all that much. We act like certain textures don’t bother us, when they do. We act like we don’t samefood, which we do.

FRIENDS WHO ARE NOT #ActuallyAutistic

You sometimes ask me how you can be a better ally to people like me.

Well, we need you now.

I want to tell you about a play called #AllInARow, and about how it’s harmful to #ActuallyAutistic folks like me. 1/
You may not have heard of it, and that’s ok.

On the surface it’s about an autistic boy growing up with his family.

Except it’s not. It’s about an allistic (not Autistic) family living with an autistic child.

A child who is to be played by a PUPPET. 2/
The Autistic character is the only one played by an inanimate object. Every other character - the ones who are not Autistic - is to be played by an actor.

Why does this matter? Why is it harmful? 3/
