There are five big issues that are likely to dominate tonight’s debate. Here’s what you need to know about them.
1. Freedom to access safe and legal abortion will be a huge focus of the Wisconsin Governor debate tonight—because it’s a central issue in the race. Freedom is on the ballot.

TIME FOR A #CHEDDARSTORM: WI’s coordinated campaign, Forward for Wisconsin @forwardforwi, went live last week. On Saturday, we officially launched campaign offices across Wisconsin. Now—chip into our Cheddar Storm fundraiser to keep them up and running!

Here at @WisDems, we’ve been organizing continuously—statewide and year-round—for more than five years. And the results speak for themselves. We’ve won nearly every state-wide race and elected leaders down the ballot.
Forward for Wisconsin’s mission is simple: reelect Gov Evers, defeat Ron Johnson, and elect leaders downballot. Having a coordinated campaign means that candidates aren’t competing for volunteers—instead, volunteers talk about Dems up and down the ballot.

Wisconsin’s Republicans gerrymandered the living hell out of Wisconsin after they won trifecta control in 2010. The fair maps movement rose up in response, passing pro-fair maps advisory referenda in counties representing the vast majority of WI’s population. Read on for more: 1/
Pro-democracy voters defeated Scott Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch in 2018 and elected Governor Evers. He vowed to fight for fair maps. And fight he did. He vetoed the GOP gerrymander and proposed better maps instead.
With our Democratic Governor and GOP-run state legislature on opposite sides, maps decisions went to the court. Our GOP-run state Supreme Court reversed past precedent and decided to take over from federal court, and then announced it wanted the least possible changes from 2010.

Wisconsin’s maps are about to get fairer. To quote the famously mild-mannered Governor Evers… “HELL YES!”

Time for a thread of celebration and gratitude.
Yesterday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled 4-3 yesterday in favor of Gov Evers’s final maps proposal, and against the proposals submitted by the GOP. It’s a huge deal.
One important caveat: our GOP-led state Supreme Court decided last November to adopt a “least-changes” approach to redistricting, meaning they’d pick a map that involved as few changes as possible to the ultra-gerrymandered 2010 maps.

The GOP’s plot to suppress and subvert its way to power in 2022 and 2024 depends on gaining enough control of enough states to overturn a presidential election. If we hold the line in Governorships like WI, MI, and PA, the GOP plot fails. And the closest of these is Wisconsin.
In America’s must-win tipping point state, the furthest extremes of the right are becoming more emboldened. A first-year far-right state Rep was filmed calling for Republicans to “cheat.” Another GOPer introduced a bill calling for election nullification.

Before we dig into our review of 2021, let’s set the stage—for why anyone outside Wisconsin should care about this state in the first place. Simply put: what happens in politics here shapes the course of the nation.
Wisconsin is the most evenly divided state in the country. 4 of the last 6 presidential elections have come down to less than 1%. In 2020, President Biden won WI by 20,682 votes—a 0.6% margin. In 2018, Gov Evers won by 1.1% As a result, every election here is a titanic battle.

The Legislative Audit Bureau’s report, which was requested by Republicans, is yet another demonstration that there was no widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

On top of the LAB’s findings, a recount, countless court cases, and a report from Trump’s own Homeland Security all showed our election was safe and secure. Nothing will ever be enough proof for the GOP because they’re not after election integrity, they’re after political power.
Wisconsin is a true battleground state, and Republicans know their best shot at retaking power in Washington is to flip the state in their favor.

DEADLINE: Our quarter ends at midnight Thursday. Wisconsin now faces Trump-obsessed Rebecca Kleefisch (formerly Scott Walker’s lt.) running for gov. If she wins, Trump’s path to steal 2024 is clear. Help us hit our goal of 106 new monthly donors & read on: secure.actblue.com/donate/trump20…
Wisconsin is the closest state in the country. 4 of the last 6 presidential elections have come down to less than 1%. And it isn’t just close—it’s decisive. Wisconsin was the “tipping point” state in both 2016 & 2020. Win Wisconsin, you win the presidency.

That’s why Wisconsin’s governorship is one of the most critical jobs in American politics. Re-elect a champion of democracy like @Tony4WI and we have a fighting chance to win in 2024. But if Kleefisch gets in, she’s promised to sign drastic restrictions on voting.

On Tue, President Biden laid it out: “We are facing the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War.” Watch his speech! But I want to add one note: the GOP’s plan to rig or steal the 2024 presidential election has a math problem.
The Republican strategy is simple: amp up the Big Lie—denial that Trump lost—and take away voter freedoms to help the GOP win the White House in 2024 and, if they don’t win, to overturn the results. It’s hideous. But it’s got a hole in it… so far.
For the GOP’s plan to work, they would either have to pass bad laws nationally (which they can’t do under Biden) or in enough states to win the Electoral College. But they can only pass them in states where the GOP has trifecta control of state gov't. There are 23 such states.

DEADLINE: Democracy is under attack—and Wisconsin is the key. We’ve got to beat Ron Johnson AND reelect @GovEvers. @WisDems are ratcheting up organizing, but need 104 more monthly donors by midnight Wed to hit our end-of-quarter target. Can you sign up? secure.actblue.com/donate/defend-…
Plan A is to defend democracy through federal law. But to do that, as we saw from last week’s GOP filibuster of the #ForthePeople Act, we need to protect & expand the Dem Senate majority—and the most vulnerable incumbent in the Senate is WI's Ron Johnson. washingtonpost.com/politics/senat…
There are already six Dems running against Johnson. A very strong field—but the Democratic Senate primary isn’t until *Aug 9, 2022.* Until then, it’s up to the @WisDems to build the statewide campaign operation needed to defeat Ron Johnson.
