"Hullo" from Southampton, where your correspondent is currently attending the Association for Law, Property and Society conference #ALPS23. We began on Thursday with a trip to the New Forest (which is actually quite old), then returned to the uni for a nice reception. 
Presentations started today, and yours truly was up first. I decided to push myself a bit and present on homelessness law. Scotland has a much vaunted system, but there are issues with it in practice notwithstanding the strong rights of applicants. #ALPS23
Sue-Mari Viljoen gave a talk entitled "Housing in Public", which gave an overview of a South African case where a municipality was stopped from selling land for money (that could then be deployed elsewhere by it) when the land could have been used for e.g. housing. #ALPS23
After some cold weather at the end of February, how is the deficit in #snow water resources doing across #Italy? Snowfalls did not change much, as we still estimate a total deficit of -63% 👇 This means we have about 1/3 of recent-year snow for this date. @DPCgov

It is not only the Italian #Alps that are experiencing a significant, profound deficit. Most of the #Apennines are back to the deficit zone after a snowy January. Again, such high temperatures can only lead to faster than usual snowmelt and very short accumulation.

Der eigentliche Plan war einen Zug früher zu nehmen. Aber früh aufstehen ist nicht ganz so mei Sach. Außerdem wars durch die Schneefahrbahn ned ganz so einfach zum Bahnhof zu radeln.
Zum Glück hab ich in weiser Voraussicht im IC einen Radplatz reserviert.

Around 3000 BCE in eastern #Europe, a Proto-Balto-Slavic #language started to diverge from #ProtoIndoEuropean.

As the #Slavic-speaking area expanded during the first millennium CE (striped area on map), Proto-Slavic transitioned to Common Slavic. The #language underwent minor changes that occurred mostly uniformly across eastern #Europe, thereby maintaining mutual intelligibility.
Around the year 1000 CE #CommonSlavic began to split into the South, West, and East branches to which all modern #Slavic #languages belong.
Roughly 315m people speak a Slavic #language, mostly in Eastern #Europe (including the #Balkan peninsula), #CentralAsia, and #Siberia.
