1/7 🧵 Using #PowerPoint in your virtual meetings? Here’s a short thread on making your presentations accessible.

1) Use sans serif fonts, no smaller than 16 points, and make sure there’s a high contrast between your text and your background colour.

2/7 🧵 2) Title each slide to help anyone navigating through your presentation quickly. If you can’t fit a particular topic on a single slide, use ‘[Slide title] part 1’, ‘[Slide title] part 2’ etc. rather than repeating or skipping a title.

3/7 🧵 3) Add #AltText to your images, charts and graphs, so they can be read by screen readers. Right click on your image, and choose ‘Format Picture’ then ‘Alt Text’. You can add a brief title, followed by a more detailed description.

.@TwitterA11y, people with disabilities need things to be accessible on BOTH ends.

The fact that the #AltText process is not easier on the writer’s end can make it difficult for #spoonie peeps & those with #cfsme to make posts that are accessible for the #VisuallyImpaired.
I know others are working on it, but with all of the algorithms out there, it should be possible to make viewable *predicted* text of what’s in a picture, so we can quickly approve it, or make edits.

That wouldn’t just “make life easier.” It’s about #accessibility & #autonomy.
#Disabled autonomy is more important than than many abled ppl realize.

So many things in our lives are based on the assumption that we “have someone to help us,” simply bc systems are falling short. It’s #ableist, & forces us to rely on others. We may not HAVE others available.

👇Vaccine Updates, a thread🧵

Yesterday we received a regional vaccine report from Kate Schroder, who is acting as Special Advisor to Vaccine Coordination for the @HCollaborative. Our Office wanted to share this information with the public so that you know as much as we do!
1/ Progress to date:

59,000 people have initiated the vaccination process (7.2% of the pop.) in Hamilton County. 824,000 people have initiated the vaccination process (7.05% of the pop.) in Ohio [you can find more on Ohio at the link below].

coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov…
2/ What is the greatest constraint?

Supply. Each week, main vaccine providers in Hamilton County receive ~10K doses allocated across public health departments (City of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co), hospitals (Children’s, Christ, Mercy, TriHealth, UC) & pharmacies (Kroger, CVS, etc)

How to write alternative text #AltText for #images and visual objects

Describing an image in just a couple of sentences to someone may sound challenging, but it is really important in terms of making your document or webpage #accessible.

We’ll be sharing some tips to help you!
Tip #1: Keep it concise and unambiguous. #AltText should be no longer than 1 or 2 sentences. For more detailed visuals this may need to be longer!
Tip #2: #AltText should be descriptive and specific. Consider what is important about an image. For example, important context may be the setting, the emotions on people's faces, the colours, or the relative sizes.

Hey followers - there's over 3000 of you but we don't know each other very well.

For years now I've been sharing issues ranging from #disabilityrights, being #autistic in an #ableist society, to #vaccines, #MMIW, #alttext, #Dyslexia, #dyspraxic, #Epilepsy, #racism, #PTSD,
#depression, #domesticabuse being the cores of what I share and lands in your timelines.

I've recently shared with you all that I'm in a process of reclamation - my culture, my identity, my gender, my sexual preferences - all of it.

So now you know my skin is white passing
but I am also part #Aboriginal and that matters deeply to me and I won't be erased anymore.

I am #pansexual. I don't need you to be of any particular gender to be attracted to you.

I am a #nonbinary #femme. But I also lean heavy in masc traits sometimes too.

I am #disabled

Here's the thing, I accommodate, to my physical & mental expense everyone who is fully able to read and write.

I'm #Dyslexic & #dyspraxic. Intense bullying & being #ActuallyAutistic made me a perfectionist about masking my #disabilities.

This tweet has taken me 5 mins to make.
Of I didkr axcokdk pepep who aee fully ankle to rand and wrote, this il wjaha my tying looks koeke nekfor I corrrec it ror the best fo my amsoly.

So I type that mess out, then I have to fix it so people who are able to read and wrote can continue to enjoy doing so in their way.
So I'm accommodating abled people, and #disabled people but very few of you are returning the favour for me.

So know you're #ableist when you don't use some form of #alttext.

And know that it hurts me to know that you don't care enough to include me as I do you.

Do better.
