Whether we like it or not, it is often far from those ideal rules written on paper. It’s a good idea to demand that combating sides respect the law of war and keep civilians safe. Unfortunately, very often, it’s easier said than done.
Not a single nation was ideal in terms of civilian safety in war. And Ukraine is not perfect. Because, again, fighting a war against one of the world’s largest militaries is much more complicated than lecturing someone from thousands of kilometers away from the battlefield.

2 - (one exploded 300 metres from me). Then I moved 5 km away from the Russians and lived for about ten days in a place on the #Dnipro river. Same situation. constant Russian shelling on the village. The Ukrainian artillery was not in the village. It was far away.
3- In those days Amnesty contacted me on Fb to ask me about the situation. I gave them my Ukrainian phone number. Nothing. I contacted the person again, he read and didn't even reply. Then that report comes out. Totally decontextualised from the ongoing conflict

Ukraine can place forces in areas they are defending - especially in #urbanwarfare. There is no requirement to stand shoulder to shoulder in a field - this isn’t the 19th century. Ukraine still has an OBLIGATION to protect civilians - but they are taking steps to do so like 2/

Are the report's authors motivated by antisemitism? There’s no reason to assume this. They’re not the only people to accuse Israel of apartheid. Palestinians have made this claim for many years, and recently some Israeli groups have as well. HRW also accused Israel of apartheid.

On p 5 of @Amnesty report alleging @Axum massacre, it says ““This briefing is based on 11 days of research by Amnesty International at the refugee reception center in Hamdayet, eastern Sudan, in January 2021, as well as on numerous phone interviews with witnesses in Axum”.
Those are the words in the @amnesty report, not mine. So here are the conclusions we can make from that statement: First, no personnel or “investigators” from @Amnesty visited or saw first hand the city of Axum either shortly after the alleged 28-29 November “massacre” NOR
did they visit the “crime scene” before writing their report! They based an accusation of a massacre in one of the world’s holiest Christian cities on phone interviews! Not one photo, video, copy of text message, phone records of people calling for help or to report the incident.
