1990: I was hospitalized with severe upper & lower back pain. Pain was so severe that I was bed-bound. It used to take 30 min to get down from bed & enter the washroom (no family member could attend on me).
I had just completed my first yr MBBS.

2. Doctors had started 4 different types of pain-killers, which were still ineffective in relieving my pain. To make matters worse, no definite diagnosis had been made. A senior Orthopedic surgeon was consulted to explore the option of giving steroid injection in affected joints.
3. He advised to wait for another two days for pain-relief to begin (15 days had passed without pain relief). Failing that, he would proceed with injections. As per his expectations, pain relief started on day 17.
In addition, HLA B27 returned positive confirming the diagnosis.

Milestone: My 2nd #runniversary and 10000 Km

1. Nov 6th 2020 was the most important day in my life, when I took complete control of my health & fitness. From a #workaholic, I converted to workaholic + #runaholic
Here, I present the milestones of my past 2-year #running journey
2. I completed 10,163 km of running in the past two years (6th Nov 2020 to 6th Nov 2022: 731 days), at an average of 13.9 km/day. This included 648 runs of 10k or longer, 110 runs of half marathon (21.1 km) or longer and one marathon (42.2 km).
3. I usually run at a pace of 7:15-7:30 min/km and my best pace is 5:45 to 6:00 min/km. My PB in 10 k is 57:03 min and in HM 2:04:41 hours. I cherish the #Ladakhmarathon HM the most, which I finished in 2:24:33 hours (on 11 Sep 2022).

Awesome October 2021: A month of 31 half #marathons on 31 consecutive days- sharing my experience
1.Starting from 30th September, and ending on 31st October 2021, I completed 32 runs of 21.1 km or longer, with a total mileage of 817 km in 32 days (average of 25.5 km/day).
This included one Full marathon (42.2 km) on 30th October.
2.The purpose was to test my #endurance, and to see the #physical & #mental effects of long distance #running on 32 consecutive days. I present my observations here.
3. How difficult was it? In reality, it was not difficult. Once you get up and start the run, it is easy to complete. The most important is- you need 2.5 to 3.5 hours time to compete the distance. I could manage that in the mornings between 5 and 8:30 AM.

A beginner's guide to long-distance consistent running

I had no sports background & had never run before. Started #running 2 years back (6 Nov 20) at age 49. Ran 5454 km in 2021, and 3604 in 2022 until today. 9058 km in 643 days (Av 14.1 km/d). Includes 591 10k+ runs and 106 HM
Running resulted in several benefits- 22 kg #weightloss (95kg before to 73kg now). HbA1C: 4.8; normal cholesterol & BP, resting HR 45/min. Physically active and mostly pain-free despite having #ankylosingspondylitis Not on any medications.
I wish to answer some common queries, mostly based on my personal experiences (and some based on my medical knowledge)
1. Can everyone run long distances? Yes, if there is no significant medical illness, anyone can run. If you have a health issue, get clearance from your doctor.

When I first began to experience neck & shoulder pain in 2015 and the inability to digest food, I switched my 2016 insurance plan to a barely affordable PPO, determined to find out what was ailing me. Here's a diagnostic thread for #InvisibleIllnesses. - @jenna_payne
Like most people who thought they were healthy (more on that tomorrow?), we've been told that if you feel sick you go to the doctor and they can fix you unless it's something like cancer or Alzheimer's. I was in for a rude awakening....
CW: diet, eating disorder?
This scene from my medical revenge HYSTERIA is more or less lifted from real life. This was my first appointment after starving myself at 1200 calories/day and gaining 40 pounds in 2/3 years. The problem was NOT my diet.

Greetings! I'll be your disabled hostess for this week. I am grappling with #AnkylosingSpondylitis, #Hashimotos, #EhlersDanlos, and some yet to be discovered issues. I write, direct, and produce films and am figuring out how to do that while disabled. - @jenna_payne A wall of money with the writing $300 MILLION. The above pictures are from my wedding & after the last biggish live action short film I directed.

In 2015 & 2016, I felt an increasing amount of pain & began to struggle to digest food. In late 2016, it began to rain inside our apartment. Six months later my spine caught fire.
I worked my last film production job - a career I both loved b/c there's nothing like it & hated b/c the hours & stress were brutal - in the spring of 2017. Between that & the eventual Aspergillus that was discovered in my apt (& a blood test), I have been disabled ever since.
