Tory MP’s start voting for the next round of candidates to go through in the #LeadershipDebate in half an hour.

For what it’s worth, I think @RishiSunak & @KemiBadenoch & @trussliz should be in the final 3 and I wish the @SkyNews debate wasn’t cancelled.
@RishiSunak @KemiBadenoch @trussliz @SkyNews All 3 candidates offer something different, and as our country goes on to face the biggest economic challenge, it’s worth having the market of ideas be explained & the mistakes reflected upon. I don’t think of them as “attacks”. People learn & grow from challenging times.
@RishiSunak @KemiBadenoch @trussliz @SkyNews Rishi & Kemi offer a fresh diversity, but they also offer fresh ideas. We’re going to need fresh ideas & bold decision making to tackle the tough times ahead. Liz offers experience & a deep understanding of the Union.
I hope a future Government contains all 3 of them in cabinet.

In September 2018 we wrote to the Government Equalities Office to ask how we could assist in any way in this inquiry.

We received the following reply:

"Thanks for your email. I’m afraid the reporting of this has been rather misunderstood."

"Rather, the commitment is to undertake research into the issues faced by natal girls who transition in their teenage years. The wording in the action plan is:"

We agree. Penny Mordaunt's support for self-ID was apparent in her Ministerial Foreword to the GRA consultation. Notice the framing and 'anchoring' bias - ie respondents are given the 'right' answer before filling in the consultation.

GRA reform is framed as stripping away the 'barriers that hold people back, to create equal opportunities.' Why is this necessary? Because 'Trans people continue to face significant barriers to full participation in public life.'
So 'This consultation seeks views on how the Government might make it easier for trans
people to achieve legal recognition.' Difficult to disagree with these aims, it's all wrapped up.

I’ve woken up this morning still in utter disbelieve and shock at what @PennyMordaunt said to me last night on @LBC

“what you’ve said, Nicola, is not a reflection of my position at any time”

I had asked her about her support for self-ID GRA reform /1

As ex-minister for women and equalities @PennyMordaunt is well known amongst women as a strong supporter of self-ID. Now she’s running for leader she’s trying to rewrite history.

“I’ve never supported self-ID” /2
Her belief that “transwomen are women’ is so strong she’s said it from the dispatch box in Parliament.

Now it’s only that “some” transwomen are women. And then only “in law”, they are of course not really a woman like she is.
