Another #BatWeek sundown is here. There are 9 species of bats in #VT, and 2 are threatened and endangered species—The Indiana bat and the northern long-eared bat.
Other bats in Vermont are the little brown bat, tricolored bat, eastern small-footed bat, silver-haired bat, hoary bat, and the eastern red bat.
Bats provide important pest suppression services to Vermont farmers. A 2011 study estimates that the value of bats to Vermont’s agricultural industry is $32.1 million each year. @USFWS

Yesterday I spoke with EPA Administrator @EPAMichaelRegan about the EPA’s important Geographic Programs, and how programs for Lake Champlain and the Great Lakes programs can benefit one another.
The Lake Champlain program, which the Trump administration repeatedly sought to ELIMINATE, is fundamental to EPA’s mission. #Appropriations
I also asked Administrator Regan about the PCB contamination at #BurlingtonHighSchool, which is so pervasive that the school has to be demolished.

Domestic violent extremism is hardly a new problem in America, but we're facing a class of criminals who are more emboldened than ever. Why? Never before had these extremists received political cover from an American President. That's what we saw during the last four years.
As Appropriations Committee Chairman, I'm committed to combatting violent extremism in ALL its forms. But let's not draw false equivalence between white supremacist extremists--who represent the MOST LETHAL threat we face--& other types of extremism. Let's follow the facts.
We must combat the threat of domestic extremism the American way. Let’s not repeat the mistakes of our past & sacrifice rights & liberties in the name of security. I've always defended Americans' civil liberties regardless of who's in charge. I won't hesitate to do so again now.

There’s much to love about @Amtrak’s proposed new service map. Over the past decade I worked in the #Appropriations Committee to secure millions of dollars to extend the Ethan Allen from Rutland to #BTV. The construction work making that expansion will be completed this year.
On the #Appropriations Committee I’ve always made #Amtrak a funding priority. We also secured Obama-era ARRA funds to make major investments in the #Vermonter route to increase its speeds. These prior federal investments make the #VT expansions Amtrak has laid out possible.
My 2016 #preclearance legislation set the table for extending the Vermonter to #MTL & I look forward to working with Pres. Biden, @Amtrak & Canadian officials to finally restore that service. Connecting #VT & Montreal by rail will offer an important boost to Vermont’s economy.

As we confront the #coronavirus, it’s important to remember that we are not Republicans or Democrats in dealing with this crisis. We are Americans. I have seen that when we come together, the Senate can be the conscience of the nation. Now is one of those times. #Appropriations
$7.8b package includes:
•$500m telehealth auth. (bringing total to $8.3 b);
•$2b to help response efforts, including $1b for state and local public health agencies;
•$3b to develop vaccines, therapeutics & diagnostics;
•$1.25b to address the virus’s spread abroad.
This is a comprehensive, bipartisan emergency #Appropriations bill designed to address the threat of the #coronavirus. I look forward to continuing to work closely with my friend @SenShelby to get this to the President’s desk as soon as possible.

NEWS: #WhiteHouse budget office violated law when it withheld security assistance to #Ukraine, Government Accountability Office (#GAO) says in issuing new report.
#GAO finding #OMB violated Impoundment Control Act `is forceful and it is unambiguous,' says #Appropriations ranking member @senpatleahy. `When President #Trump froze congressionally appropriated military aid to #Ukraine, he did so in violation of the law and the Constitution.'
@SenPatLeahy #GAO ruling on #Ukraine aid `deserves a thorough hearing in the impeachment trial, especially as it relates to the charges of abuse of power,' says @SenatorDurbin, Democratic whip and ranking on #Appropriations Defense panel. context-cdn.washingtonpost.com/notes/prod/def…

Mr. President, homelessness is a state, local, AND federal problem. As Americans, we should lift our fellow citizens up and not degrade them.
Congressional Democrats secured more than $2.8 billion alone in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development #Appropriations bill to help communities design and implement local solutions to end homelessness.
Congress rejected your proposal to slash/eliminate programs to address homelessness & instead increased programs like HUD-VASH (which serves homeless veterans), Community Service Block Grants, Emergency Food and Shelter Grants, & Homeless Youth Demonstration Grants among others.

The $1.4 trillion bipartisan, bicameral funding agreement announced today rejects the devastating and shortsighted cuts proposed by President Trump and makes historic investments in the American people and working families. #Appropriations appropriations.senate.gov/news/minority/…
The agreement supports children and families by making an historic investment in Child Care and Development Block grants ($5.8 billion), meaning as many as 44,000 more children will be served by the program. #Appropriations
It supports child nutrition programs that provide over 31 million children with lunch during each school day, and ensures that 6 million women, infants, and children receive the nutritional support they need through the #WIC program. #Appropriations
