1/ Jumper : jubbah جُبَّة
Le mot arabe pour pardessus est entré à l'origine dans les langues européennes sous le nom de "juppah", un vêtement en soie précieux, dans le sud de l'Italie au 11ème siècle.
En français, le mot jupe vient aussi de jubbah.
2/ Admiral : amīr أَمير
L'amiral est le grade le plus élevé dans la marine.
Le terme est utilisé internationalement par de nombreux pays.
Il dérive à l'origine du mot arabe amīr (= commandant), et est venu à l'anglais par le biais de l'ancien français et du latin

since today is apparently #ArabicLanguageDay, here's a thread of recommended resources for learning #EgyptianArabic .

i'm far from an expert in this dialect — language learning never ends! — but i have plenty of successes & failures to speak on with the following tools. 1/
two disclaimers:

1. i'm only talking abt 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴 i've used, not language-learning 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘴, for wh there are many podcasts, YT videos, books, etc.

2. some of these are applicable for learning other varieties of Arabic & even other langs, but some are obviously not!

Fact 1: Arabic has three different variants which are used in all Arabic-speaking countries. They are: Classical, Colloquial or Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).
Fact 2: Arabic is spoken by over 420 million people in the Arab world, and is the liturgical language of 1.8 billion Muslims. It is the sixth most spoken language in the world.
