While I have deep respect for India and its important relationship with the US, I condemn the revocation of #Article370 & #Article35A, the imposed comms blockade, suppression of life-saving medical care, and reports of widespread human rights violations in #Jammu and #Kashmir.
The communication blockade doesn’t just mean people cannot get in touch with their families, it also means shortages of medicine and an inability to receive medical care. nytimes.com/2019/08/14/tec…
And multiple reports indicate that over 3,000 people have been indefinitely detained without charges by the Indian government under the Public Safety Act, including children, lawyers, doctors, religious leaders, and opposition political leaders.

Regardless of the veracity of the terror threat in #Kashmir, that the government used it as subterfuge to prepare the ground for its dramatic steps is now beyond question.
Yet, among all the din of jubilation and paeans to the ‘making of history’, the fact that the government most probably misled the people over the nature of a terrorist threat is now almost an irrelevant aside. #Article370 #Article35A
As the ruling party rightly anticipated, people don’t seem to mind being deceived. This acceptance to lying with a “mixture of gullibility & cynicism” is reminiscent of d totalitarian societies Hannah Arendt described in her book The Origins of Totalitarianism. How #Fascism work

Did Patel, Ambedkar really oppose Article 370?First of all, very idea that a few members of previous Cabinet can be singled out by later-day historians/politicians to prove a point is flawed, as a Cabinet is supposed to function on the principle of collective responsibility.>>
Alleged opposition of Ambedkar & Patel to Article 370 is unsustainable defence for any step taken by today’s Cabinet, simply on this ground.
2nd, document & evidence show that the then Cabinet led by former PM Nehru worked on mutual consultations on the Kashmir issue.#Kashmir >
Besides, in Nehru’s day, all powers were not centralised /concentrated in PM’s Office, as has become norm today. Patel’s biographer Rajmohan Gandhi points out: ‘Gandhi, Nehru & Patel formed a crucial triumvirate that agreed that independent India would not be a Hindu Rashtra >>

They are, now, equal.

In 1957, marginalised Valmikis were brought to J&K by govt. to quell union protest & clean streets.

Listen to this man crying. #Article35A

"I am Sanitation worker. Remained hungry, saved money to take her to exam centre. She cleared but was denied due to PRC Residency."

He worked as Sanitation worker - with low wages, in hope for children future. Family not allowed a Govt job

She cleared physical test but was denied on state-recruitment basis. As No PRC.

Can she be accepted now?

Scrapping #Article370: What does it mean?

What were the ramifications of notifications issued by Kashmir's Maharaja Hari Singh? What are state subjects? What exclusive rights did state subjects hold? How did #35A come into being?

Explains @sarthakraizada Advocate, Supreme Court
What is Article 35A?

#Article35A guaranteed exclusive rights to permanent residents of Jammu & Kashmir like exclusivity in employment, grants, education & property rights. This meant that an ordinary Indian citizen could not buy property in J&K. This was clearly discriminatory.
What took so long?

Several deliberations between State & Central govt took place over the years but in vain. A host of petitions were even filed citing the discriminatory nature of #Article35A. On many occasions the Hon. Supreme Court refused to entertain these petitions.

Kashmir Crisis- Explained.

Feb-1989- Russian invasion ends in Afghanistan
1989- Terrorist activities start in Jammu and Kashmir

30 years later-2019

Trump has to withdraw troops from Afghanistan after peace deal with Taliban.
The non state actors of Pakistan will be free from their western borders and will be deployed on eastern borders ie Kashmir. Its a repeat of what happened 30 years back.

Only difference that this time Pakistan is in a hurry to time it with Trumps offer on mediation +
and make Kashmir an international issue.

Indian intelligence agencies most probably intercepted communication lines and concluded that something terrible is in waiting for Kashmir .

History is repeating.+
