"End to End," is my new column for @LocusMag, proposing a policy for a better internet: the "#EndToEnd" principle (#E2E), a bedrock of the original design for the internet, updated for the modern, monopolized web, as a way of #disenshittifying it:

The original E2E marked the turning point from telco-based systems where power was gathered at the center, controlled by carriers, to the packet-switched internet, where power moved to the edges. Under the old model, only the network operator could add new features. 3/

#willwritesandcodes #100DaysofCode #Day19

Today I did several @enkidevs workouts on #CSS and #interviewprep, finally actually finished the #HowToProgram video on Python Modules, typing up a #python program from the video which I hope to record an audio code walkthrough for.
Hoping to get more done today still. Overall, I've been pretty productive, due in part to using the #forestapp for #focus.
I've heard a number of people talk about how important it is to get used to reading other people's code, actually understanding it, and talking about it, so if I start doing these walkthroughs it will be to practice those skills.

1. In light of the #Audible price cuts, I wrote an #openletter to #CEO @BobCarrigan @audible_com @acx_com on behalf of all of the #indieauthors who are trying to create #audiobooks in an environment where big tech wants our content & the lions share of royalties. #audiblegate 🧵

Last week, @markgurman published a blockbuster story in @Business, revealing #Apple's plan to allow third-party #Ios #AppStores to comply with the #EU's #DigitalMarketsAct. @Apple didn't confirm it, but I believe it. Gurman's sourcing was impeccable:

This is a huge deal. While Apple's "curated" approach to software delivers benefits to users, those benefits are unreliable. As I explain in a new post for @EFF's Deeplinks blog, Apple only fights for its users when doing so is good for its shareholders. 3/

Beginning in Havana in 1865, factory workers paid for a reader, or lector, to keep their minds active & engaged during long hours of monotonous labor. On a raised platform, the lector #read aloud everything from newspapers to classics.

And it appears wearing your hat as you worked was also a popular trend.
An amazing image of another lector reading to cigar factory workers in Havana, 1950.

I'm curious if this idea could be modernized for today's labor force? Maybe a #podcast or #audiobooks?

#Readers who justify #bookpiracy because THEY are poor i.e can buy the latest tech, fashions, daily coffees but cannot 'afford' books, we need to have a talk, and #RealityCheck ...
1. Those who download from #pirate sites wouldn't buy the book anyway.

To justify theft by saying that the thief wouldn't pay for what they stole is ridiculous. Clearly, they wanted the product but didn't think it was 'worth' $4 because they can steal it without consequences.
2. Authors earn lots of money, they're just being greedy.

In the latest @ALCS_UK research "“The median annual income of a professional author is £10,500 (US$11,300), which is well below the minimum wage."

1% of authors earn huge sums, most of us barely scrape a living.

This thread is for my own personal record. When I stopped watching #Netflix, I started using #Audible #Audiobooks to read. I 'read' all the time now. This is the first free book i purchased when I signed up for the 30-day trial. It's 28 hours long. audible.com/pd/B07B5BJ97R?…
When I stopped watching #Netflix I started using #YouTube. I found some interviews and lectures of @jordanbpeterson and thought his intellect fascinating. I bought #MapsOfMeaning first because it was more expensive and the first book is free. This was 2nd: audible.com/pd/B0797YBP7N?…
After reading both of Dr. Peterson's books I was convinced that I would benefit gaining the wisdom he has by reading what he reads. Most of his books reference many of the same authors so I went looking for a list. Of course he has one. Recommended reading:jordanbpeterson.com/great-books/
