1. Oh was yesterday #AutismAwarenessDay? Dang. I missed it. Instead I stayed off of social Media and spent a lovely day with my #ActuallyAutistic family not waving jigsaw pieces around, turning blue or spreading misinformation around that makes money for charities.
2. Later on I did a 3hr workshop on #AutisticMasking to 400 lovely Danish people with @DrAmyPearson. I missed #AutismAwarenessDay yet still somehow managed to pass on a shitload of useful & practical #Autism knowledge to a shitload of people
3. Its strangely like there's no need to have #AutismAwarenessDay, #AutismAwarenessWeek, or #AutismAwarenessMonth because for many Autistic people every day is, week and month of the year where we put out immensities of useful & productive #Autism information in various forms.

Be Their Rock
You are their most trusted people in the world. If you can’t understand and appreciate them, who can? If your child or young person is attached to you to the point of separation anxiety, be patient.

Give Them Space
Give your child emotional space regularly. Make it part of their emotional regulation routine.
They will need an area where they can be left to chill out/decompress. This might not be their bedroom.

So this week it is #AutismAwarenessWeek. As I've tweeted before I have a 4 year old son who's been diagnosed with @Autism. He's a very happy and boisterous little boy, but he struggles in many areas. Eating is one of these areas.
2/ Last week I attended an all-day training session on Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). As the day progressed it was easy to see that the slides were describing all the issues my son faces.
3/ It is incredibly common for children on the spectrum to have ARFID, so it is vital that children who have it are diagnosed and plans can be made to help them.

It’s fucking disgusting.
Look, I get you want to seem like you’re helping the autistic community, but so called ‘awareness’ is not the way to do that.
Most people are already aware of autism anyway.
What autistic people want is acceptance.
