One of its interesting subfields of study is called "#Autopoiesis". It describes the phenomena of an entity "creating itself", and "self organizing". Sounds familar, #ShibArmy 😉 ?

Siempre me ha asombrado que el concepto de #autopoiesis como definición operacional de lo vivo —una de las ideas más prolíficas de Humberto Maturana junto a Francisco Varela— no haya logrado instalarse como LA definición mainstream que toda la humanidad usa.
Las enciclopedias todavía repiten el mantra de que "los seres vivos nacen, crecen, se reproducen y mueren". El mundo de la astrobiología cita a Sagan: "la vida es un sistema químico auto-sustentable capaz de evolución Darwiniana", pero esa definición es todavía poco útil.
Creo que tienen mucha culpa quienes explican la #autopoiesis sin ir al fondo de la idea y se quedan en comparar máquinas autopoiéticas y alopoiéticas, como empieza haciendo Maturana en "De máquinas y seres vivos": pintan la #autopoiesis como un asunto de auto-fabricación.

The Achilles heel of younger AI researchers is the lack of exposure to alternative models of cognition. One has tunnel vision when optimization is one's framework for cognition. Cognition is very messy and acknowledging this should be the first step.
Behaviorism in psychology and reductionism in neuroscience are examples of pursuits that purposely ignored the messiness of the brain. Fortunately, we are moving to more holistic approaches in these areas. The same should happen in AI research.
