Since reading has become a habit reduced to tweets among many, I thought it useful to present some excerpts from Prof Meenakshi Jain's books on Ayodhya - "Rama and Ayodhya" and "The Battle for Rama".

First, Babar's outlook changed from a conqueror to a religious fanatic after his victories in India:
"Meenakshi Jain notes that while Babur had initially based his claims to sovereignty on “grounds of his Timurid heritage
" and Turkishness,” this changed after his conquest of India – he would refer to Hindus as “kafirs,” and “termed the war against Rana Sangha as “jihad.”"

Day 40 of the hearing in the #Ayodhyacase begins with the #CJI making it clear that arguments will close at 5 pm today. "Enough is enough," says Justice Gogoi.

Sr adv CS Vaidyanathan resumes his arguments, saying the #Muslim side hasn't given any evidence on exclusive possession or title.

Vaidyanathan argues there could be some evidence that the #Muslim side offered Friday prayers at the disputed site between 1857 & 1934. "But there is absolutely no evidence that they offered any prayer after that. On the other hand, #Hindus continued to worship".

ZJ: Referring to a 1942 suit between the Nirmohis, Mr. Zafaryab Jilani points out that the disputed property had been identified as a mosque.
Referring to grant of permission to access the building to Muslims, Mr. Jilani submits "It cannot be said that that building was being used as anything except mosque."

CSV: Muslim parties had first said that there is nothing beneath the land but later changed their case to the effect that what has been found beneath was probably an islamic structure.

CSV: ASI has a reputation in this country and it is due to these considerations that yhe High Court accepted the report if the ASI.
