[1/🧵] I believe @bob_way has already gone way overboard with #ILP and all the complexities of explaining all that needs to be expressed. ❤️

Still, let me make a few remarks on the following topics 👇
• Infrastructure layers of #ILP
#XRPL Payment Channels
• "Ledger Graphs"
[2/17] — Infrastructure Layers of #Interledger

When it comes to the most recent version of the open #ILPv4 suite in universal mode (high volume, low value payments), the layering is as follows:

1⃣ Application
2⃣ Transport
3⃣ Interledger (Core Layer)
4⃣ Link
5⃣ Ledger
[3/17] — 1⃣ Application Layer —

This is the suite's first layer, and it contains the following protocol:
➡️ #SPSP (Simple Payment Setup Protocol)

📝 This is for #identifiers, which are comparable to email addresses and are used to make addresses readable.

[1/5] We documented how we deploy our Broker service, including scripts that keep the service alive and backed up. If you are interested in deploying an instance yourself, feel free to check it out. Here are some highlights:

[2/5] We use @freebsd as our main OS for the Postgres database and API hosting. It is very simple to create and start system services, and hard to make mistakes. /etc/rc.conf and /etc/rc.d are the only two places involved for configuring that.
[3/5] We keep two active backups: one daily and one weekly. The daily backup goes to our own data storage server, while the weekly backup goes to DigitalOcean Spaces. The backup is done using pg_dump command. The backups also serve as bootstrap data for docker installs.

#rogersoutage We observed a few rounds of recovery attempts and fraction of traffic came back multiple times. But none of the recovery lasted over one hour. The network went completely down again at around 23:00 UTC. More in the updated blog post: blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflares-vi…
As described in the blog post, we also saw a pattern of #BGP route flapping in the form of large number of announcements followed by withdrawals. This could indicate internal/core network issue getting propagated out via BGP.
The traffic starts to ramp up again! A bunch of curious engineers here (virtually) are watching the traffic monitors and cheer to see higher throughput. It's been 40 minutes now, and it seems to be able to sustain the load this time.

[DISCLAIMER]

There was a significant jump on announcement of this prefix at the time of the event.
stat.ripe.net/widget/bgp-upd… Image
AS7625 announces a /21 that covers the prefix in question (/24). AS9457 also announces a super prefix, but even larger (/16 as oppose to /21). Techinically, it should be fine for either ASNs to originate the prefix in question. But it's a bit stranger for AS9457 to do so. Image

BREAKING: Potential hijack underway. ThousandEyes detected intermittent availability issues to Google services from some locations. Traffic to certain Google destinations appears to be routed through an ISP in Russia & black-holed at a China Telecom gateway router.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for additional analysis. #google #hijack
ThousandEyes BGP Route Visualization shows the 216.58.192.0/19 prefix being leaked into the Internet, which would cause traffic to #Google to be routed via networks in #Russia, #China and #Nigeria
